Hazebros in 2015: doesn’t matter if it looks like orange juice (at best) and (often) Ebola diarrhea. Have an open mind. These are legit beers because of the flavor profile.

Hazebros in 2020: that beer is too clear and should be instantly dismissed regardless of how it tastes. I won’t even acknowledge it’s existence.

If the difference between an NEIPA and an IPA is a miniscule amount of unfiltered residue then Half Acre has been doing them since before NEIPAs were a thing.... can we have a bit more of a standard for what an NEIPA is then leaving sediment in a regular ipa?

Or alchemist brews. My idea of the perfect NEIPA is heady or focal. Hazy but not thick. Still a lot of hop bite - more with some age. Was my first NEIPA years ago and still my measuring stick. Seems like FFF’s style as well. I sample many that lack the hop bite - to the point of wondering why they are called IPAs.

Julius and Monkish are not the only representation of the style, but are the only ones you listed to really differentiate themselves to be called an NEIPA rather than just an IPA from New England. If Dinner or SoS were made in CA they would not be termed NEIPAs they would be an unfiltered IPA.

It's like saying is a brown ale not an imperial stout because they are both representations of dark beers. There are enough differences to make these totally different styles....

It's probably fair to mention that a lot of people no longer consider things like Heady Topper an NEIPA, since to a portion of the customer base, NEIPA = hazy, and hazy = looks like orange juice.

I can't tell you how many times I've read a review of a beer, or saw a pic on Untappd, and the gist was "they claim this is an IPA but it's not even that opaque."

Maybe it's better if hazy = the Treehouse style, and NEIPA just means any IPA that's unfiltered (like NE's grandpa, Heady)?

Or, how 'bout this? Every beer style spans a broad spectrum within its own category. All of these can still be a brewer's interpretation of the style. And instead of going in circles making pointless arguments about it (not that you are specifically arguing), we can just choose to drink and enjoy/not enjoy them.

So you're saying you haven't actually seen, much less tried, these beers? You're just going off Untappd photos? This, sir, may be your best troll yet!

I agree with that, I was just responding to the general idea (that most of us are looking for something specific when we see those terms on a can).

With that being said, I enjoy the pointless arguments on BA about as much as anything, so I'm probably the worst person to continue popping into this thread at the moment.

Not sure how you inferred any of that as that is a huge reach. As I (1) do not currently have those beers in front of me and (2) if I did you are not currently in front of me to show you them, (3) it would seem the easiest place to find a repository of beer photo references would be on untappd so you can see for yourself.

As someone who just moved to the Midwest less than five years ago and was introduced to the local scene with most breweries on an even playing field... yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one.

Region X cans just hit my area. Unhesitatingly picked it up. High-quality boosted-malt German style lager. No one mentions their skills with lagers enough. Traditional and new-world.

Not withstanding new bottle formats, I think many of us are waiting for the next big thing from fff. It has been at least 5 years since people lined up every Thursday in the parking lot for Zombie Dust. With the alleged new construction, they can’t expect shelf turds to make themselves a destination brewery.

And I am grateful that they do not do milkshake IPAs infused with fruit, lactose, and metal.

I’ve been beating this drum for the last 2 years or so. They are up there with the best in the region at German style beers, and they have excelling at it for over a decade.

Being a top lager is like being elected president of the US. You were just the most convenient and least disliked at a time and place when there weren't better options.
