    Appreciate your enthusiasm. Having said that, one of the requirements for the NBS BIF is participation in NBS. Have you given it a shot? New Beer Sunday is a welcoming place and we love new blood.

    Ah, I saw Mr. Beertunes recruiting us in the Rookie BIF to come play over here, and the first post doesn't expressly say you have to have contributed to a NBS thread prior to joining so... I didn't know. But now I do! So I've posted over in today's NBS thread.

    Thanks. Last week was my first time giving it a shot. Initially I was intimidated by the idea of trying to measure up to some of the great reviewers in the NBS threads. Everyone has been really welcoming though. I also find if I keep in mind the fact that I want to really describe the beer for others in a review, I concentrate more on whatever beer it is at that moment. Often times it's easy to just sit back and really enjoy a beer without thinking about the nuances while watching tv or listening to music or whatever. It's been a fun experience to say the least.

    One of the great and welcoming parts of NBS is that we're not necessarily looking for formal reviews. They're certainly welcome, but not necessary.

    I'll use my own posts as an example. I always link my formal review, but my thoughts in the thread itself are usually less formal (and, believe it or not, less verbose :grinning: ). I often focus much more on flavor and overall impressions, maybe not even mentioning appearance; maybe comparing it to similar beers in the style. It's less a sit-down-with-a-pen-and-paper kind of review, and more: what do I think other people want to know about this beer? What would they find helpful? What matters most to them - that it has excellent head retention, or that it tastes like battery acid?

    That takes a lot of the "pressure" (such as it is) off of the review. There's no right or wrong, no BJCP guidelines - just you, a beer, and how you feel about it at that time.

    We used to have more from Cali. Whatever happened? It's such a big state with multiple beer scenes.
