I'll go ahead and chime in here real quick: I dont find Jeppe's beers overly expensive at all on the whole. Small Brewery -> Evil Twin -> Importer -> Distributor -> Me -> You = a pricey beer. Is it worth it? It's a relative question. I like and respect Jeppe, so i try and show my support that way. Others seem to as well. On my shelves right now i have 13 of his beers, and i'd say each one is worth trying if you're into trying new beers by unique people.

The only pricing i've questioned is the Hipster Ale cans, which are $15.99 retail here...which is quite steep. Alex MasterSki is, per usual, correct...the 12% Imports layer adds a significant increase to it.

The issue really comes down to choice in the marketplace, if you dont like it or agree with it, dont buy it.

To the OP, i'll say this: As a member of the industry, you have a responsibility to carry yourself in a manner that stays respectful to both your customers and suppliers, and you've failed miserably at that, and it refelcts poorly on all of us. Your position does not preclude your opinions, and you have every right to share those with your store manager/distributor/importer/Jeppe himself. However, there are much better ways of going about it. I hope you learn from this.

To RodneyX: When you divulge your tax returns and provide us with all of your financial information (e.g Mortgage rates, Car payment interest rate, credit score, etc), only then will we take you seriously.

To Jeppe: Told you so :stuck_out_tongue:

Jeppe... friend... dude... bro... take it down a few notches. We all know how hard small gypsy/contract brewers work, and all know that people on internet forums, more often than not, are unintelligent, or at the very least, uninformed. Aside from firing back at someone rather aggressively on a forum coming off, to me at least, as incredibly unprofessional, getting riled up over anonymous nonsense internet fodder is only going to make your already difficult job that much more stressful. It will be way more beneficial to you and your business to just take a deep breath and step away from the conversation.

That being said, in business, it is very important to keep your ear to the ground and listen for the chatter about your brand. When it comes to Evil Twin, much of the chatter has to do with the cost to quality ratio and how, to the perception of the consumer, your beers are significantly more expensive than comparable products. Rather than trying to justify it via forum flame-war, be mindful that this opinion of your company exists, and do what you can to compensate for it. Work to lower your costs. Try to renegotiate your contracts. Market your beers in a way that helps justify the cost to the consumer. Or do none of that and cope with the occasional outraged internet idiot. It's your business, so there is really no wrong answer, except, of course, yelling at someone through a website.

Best of luck, and keep the beer coming.

To the guy asking if $20 for a 6-pack of Hipster is normal.

I make less than 15 cent a can. Thats without the cost of my label designer, homepage, travel expenses for events and brewing etc.

There you go people. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

BREAKING NEWS: The price of beer is not directly tied to how good it tastes, but rather the cost of production. If you find it too expensive, just don't buy it, others that are willing to pay the price will do so and we can all be happy, say cheers, and drink a good beer. The end.

Thanks for clarifying though I have to correct you:

    Small Brewery -> Evil Twin -> Importer -> Distributor -> Me -> You = a pricey beer.

Sorry again people, I try to work for free but my wife and kids wont let me. They are hungry too.

Christ, that Even More Jesus I've been saving for the day I lose my virginity to a nun is going to taste extra special tonight. Well, the nun might not go down, but the beer sure will!

    Thanks, Jeppe!

So because you are just some drunk on the internet accusing me for things I don't do I'm not entitled to defend/explain myself.

I'm not fired up. I'm a big boy, I can handle it. I don't stress over what I read, I stress over working up to 80 hours a week.

But if someone calls be an idiot or a liar to my face. At a bar, at a meeting or even on the internet, I explain/defend myself.

I believe in peoples right to free speech. But I believe just as much in peoples right to hear the truth and not just lies. Thats why I involve myself in this discussion. Wouldn't you guys too?

LMAO I was thinking the same thing!!!! Evil Twin prices, make MBC seem like a hell of a bargain!! Freshness included. Seriously, the price is the price. I just treat myself every once in a while to ET or MBC and thats that. If it was less expensive, would I buy more??? Of course!! But it's not so I just will have to settle for the occasional taste. Oh well, no big deal.

To Jeppe, you make good brews and thanks. Don't feel bad, all the Brewers in your price range take a beating on here. I guess it's somewhat of a compliment, because if your beer sucked, nobody would give a damn what you charged.

Ah, okay. I just wondered if that was a retailer getting greedy or not. That sucks that you dont make much on your beers. I still need to try one.

I agree with most of what you've said in this thread, but this is point is bullshit. Retail mark-up is generally somewhere between 18-30%. If your shop in Denmark can get away with doubling the price paid to the distributors then more power to you, but any store in America that tried that pricing strategy would likely go out of business pretty quick.

Side note from someone who works retail and has tried almost all of your beers: Based on conversations with customer and overhearing them talk to one another, I think the the cheeky/goofy names and descriptions on the bottle (which often give very little indication of what's inside) sometimes does more harm than good. If it works for you that's cool, but sometimes people just want to read a label and know what's in the bottle.

Not BAs, they want to read a label and know if they should hoard it because it has trade value

One of my beers cost $70.00/case to the retailer here in New York. I have seen it at a retailer for $12.95.

You can believe it or not. I know its true, thats what matters to me. I don't lie, I'm not that kind of person.

    Jeppe

P.s. Don't ask my what retailer, I won't tell you, cause I don't believe in calling anyone out here.

    I agree!

This is just another example of air in the craft beer asset bubble that is sure to burst. It is getting rediculous what breweries/distributors/retailers are charging these days. Throw in the bottle purchase limits and the "Super Market Sweep" mentality of consumers buying these beers and the whole experience has become exhausting. $18 for a 12oz bottle of ET BTJ, LOL...admittedly the worst purchase of my life. My most recent disappointment is here in NC you now pay $3 for a 12oz of Cold Mountain with a 2 bottle limit whereas 2 years ago you could buy a 12 pack for $18-$20. 79% mark up per bottle! Ive played the game too long and I am soon no longer participating. As more and more people reach their limit this house of cards will come tumbling down and hopefully we will see a dramatic market correction.

Well I certainly don't hate you but I am DEFINITELY jealous!
As far as your beers, The person handling distribution of your product in my area never returned my calls/emails about getting them in here, So I can't get the chance to complain about your prices! Dang it! I wanna be cool and complain about beer being expensive on the internet.
