Hello there, Doing a family road trip from Montana down to Salt Lake City, Moab and Denver. Shades in SLC looks pretty sweet. Planning to hit Bierstadt Lagerhaus and Cerebral brewing in Denver for the Slow Pour Pils and some hazies. Anything going on in Moab besides Moab Brewing? Does that state liquor store there have a good selection, particularly of NEIPAs/hazies? Any other strong recs for SLC or Denver? Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Everything on the shelf is warm at liquor stores in UT. If you’re searching for hops I’d only buy from the best of the best when it comes to packaging. Sierra is my default if I have to buy stuff in the liquor store here. They have the most money and the best packaging equipment.
If you're gonna go to one brewery in SLC, make it TF Brewing. You'd have to be lucky to hit them on one of their NEIPA releases, but they make the best beer here IMO. In terms of Moab.. not much of a clue. Don't expect to be excited by state liquor stores and enjoy the scenery.
Moab’s not much for beer.. my recommendation would be enjoy the outdoors as much as you can and wear yourself out. That way one or two at Moab Brewing and you’ll be good for the night. Oh and bring beer from Denver.
Moab Brewery sometimes does some one-offs, 750mls. SLS have great prices, but the selection is pretty bad, from when I lived there. If you like spirits (Bourbon, Vodka...) the prices are very nice, especially compared to here in GJ. Cheers!
Moab is closed evidently.. No lodging or camping allowed. I hope this doesn’t affect the OPs plans....
Headed to southeast Utah and wondering what 5% beers I should pick up while in the area. Doesn't necessarily need to come from UT but looking for something not available in CA.
Going to answer my own question: the best beers I found at the 5% and lower level while in Utah were a dry hopped pilsner from Wasatch, 5% Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (brewed special for Utah?) that was even more sessionable than regular 5.6% SNPA, and Naturdays. Moab brewing Pale Ale was also pretty good but had to go to ABC for that one.
Is Eddie McStiff's still around? Beer back in the day was just decent but a nice place to hang out after a day of doing stupid stuff in the heat (e.g. riding the Slickrock trail when it was 111F).
The cool thing about Moab Brewing if you have young kids is that you can get them something from the McDonald's next door and bring it into the bar.
