I was pretty disappointed in the amount of cinnamon in this actually (I love cinnamon in beers). Stopped by yesterday to get my CS bottles. The preview keg of Transmit in Color was still on. I wasn't a fan of this at all. I get more coffee and cinnamon out of RS than this. By a lot.
I'll be passing on MandoPapaBravo as well. Maybe my palette was blown out but I didn't get peanut butter and only a faint chocolate out of it.
On that note, CS is getting better every time I try it.

If you had Mando right after TiC, then your pallate was definitely blown out. I had a few sips of Mando first and really liked it. Went over to TiC and finished a pour before finishing my Mando. The cinnamon in TiC completely obliterated the taste of Mando for me... ended up tasting like Play-Do. After my palate calmed down, the original Mando goodness was back. Definitely try it out first next time, or at least prior to any cinnamon.

I’m not much of a cinnamon fan so this may actually be a positive for me.

Mando isn’t a finished product right? The WoL-esque previews usually aren’t, just not sure if it’s different now that WoL isn’t til later.

Just wondering, how do you know Hypermash Hydra is being released 3/22?

Don’t say anything, but I broke into their offices late one night, cracked their safe, and took top secret “eyes only” intel relating to all future release dates for the rest of the year. You guys aren’t going to believe the July/August releases!

(That and the next release date or two are usually printed on the Epicurean One menus)

I enjoyed the vast majority of beers at WoL, but Hypermash Hydra was particularly special. I remember the mouthfeel was levels above what I expected, which makes sense with the double and triple mashes. I can only imagine what that extra time in those barrels did too.

Definitely setting my alarm on the 22nd!

    Hey all,

I saw a reply on the instagram post that 10-15% of bottle logic makes it to distro. If I'm flying in to LAX from Australia on 28th March what are my odds on landing one of these from a bottle shop closer to DTLA/North Hollywood? Reason I ask is it's unlikely I'll be able to get to Anaheim, otherwise I'd preorder.

    Thanks in advance.

Depending on how long you're here, good luck. There are probably a few places that will get them fast but, they're probably the notable places everyone else is going to run to right away and you're competing with. If you can't make it to Anaheim, it doesn't sound as if you have time to run around the city checking every shop.

That said, I hope you do snag at least one because if it's even just close to the WoL pours, it's well worth it in my opinion.

Probably very low but not impossible, you will likely be able to get some other releases. A few shops still have some other releases (typically less desirable) available.

You're probably better off arranging an in-person trade ahead of time rather than spending time chasing bottles all over the place. Just bring some cool stuff from wherever you're coming from.

You can possibly score some less “desirable” bottles like FO, Picture If You Will, Darkstar November, etc, but your best bet at getting this one in particular is a pre-order.

I love how beers like FO and DN are considered "less desirable" now, when they're world class.

Gotta love the landscape of craft beer now.

We know you prob got some ADWTD DO and TO down there in Australia. I will gladly trade you my and my mules allotment for a shot at those haha. Otherwise sounds like a killer trip... if coronavirus doesn't jump to Australia too hard and they ban travel in and out.

Hence the quotes. I agree they are world class. It’s a commentary on the current state of craft beer and in particular the trading landscape. A lot of idiots in this hobby now only think a beer is as good as it’s secondary value.

I wouldn’t call it a “shelfie” brand just yet, but it is soooooo much easier to get now than it has been in the past. It used to be that any case of BL that hits a distro account around here would be gone within an hour or two. Now they last at least a couple of days for most releases, so the rush to get to a shop isn’t as urgent.

I’m wishing BL keeps making up to the sf Bay Area. Lately it hasn’t made it up at all, only JTR has.
