It’s Avery Swanson, formally of Jester King. If you think she is focused on hiding ABV, or disguising anything, you just have not been following along. She is not making beers in which consumers would find value in the ABV. It’s product that should be judged on the liquid in the bottle.

If anyone is looking for the best alcohol to taste to price beer quotient, then you shouldn’t be following companies like Keeping Together, Afterthought, Off Color specialty products, ect... just buy founders 15pks and that’s fine.

do I think it’s world class, yes. But if you’re trying to pinch penny’s, then just move on. Leave these companies alone. They aren’t attacking you and don’t deserve the vitriol

No one is doing this here. We just want information about the product we're consuming.

Are people really buying beer based on what has the most abv? I claim bs. If this were the case they would be drinking everclear or shelf turding 17% uncle jacobs on sale for $9.99.

Telling people not to judge on the abv means there is a weakness in that brewers style and that they are hiding something. Don't need to know that thin tasting Imperial Stout only came in at 5%? Or that Belgian Single is 15% abv?

By this logic of enjoying the beer for what it is, she shouldn’t list the style or ingredients. All her beer should be consumed in blind taste tests? I think the people she wants to make beer for are adept enough to judge on the beer and not the abv. It’s a safety and health thing. People want to know what they are consuming and should have that right. Some people are abv sensitive and others just want to not kill others on the road. A 750ml of 3% table beer is going to have a dramatically different effect on a 100lb person than a 12% beer when they get behind the wheel. Are you okay with them not knowing? Should we judge food on what it is and remove the labels and warnings about being made on a line with peanuts or containing dairy?

Someone doesn't work at a bar, or know anyone that does.

If that were the case Budweiser and Miller would be 12%...

No one would want that because you'd be blackout drunk too quickly. You need a good ratio between cost and abv that allows you to drink all night.

That being said, no one is buying a 750 ml bottle (Im assuming these are 750s) of a mixed culture table beer because they're looking to get hammered for a good deal.

Like I said, you're speaking as if you're experienced selling draft beer, or know someone who is, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Someone in the market that's aware of and looking to consume Keeping Together is going to be more likely to generally consume craft. Now they might be even more discerning than that, but the general craft beer crowd is much more expansive than that which you see on this forum.

To keep it short, basically, if you know someone that works at a craft beer bar, at least 75% of their patrons are indeed looking for bang for their buck, which means highest ABV beer at lowest price.

So just to clarify, you are saying people who drink craft want the highest abv for their buck? Why don't we see more craft brewers complying with this and making cheaper, higher abv beers to satiate this overwhelming demand you suggest.

What are you saying, brewers don't brew high abv shit or something? Have you looked around at the average IPA these days? I mean...I'm not sure what there is to clarify. If this is a pattern you haven't seen from the buying public for years, it's because you aren't looking or aren't exposed to it by staying out of public in general.

The only time price to ABV ratio comes into play for me is when I'm at like fucking Buffalo Wild Wings and they have 8 IPAs on tap and for some reason the local 7% IPA is $7 and the Lagunitas 6% IPA is $8. Or they're the same price which is usually the case.

I don't want to beat a dead horse but the vast majority of craft beer consumers do not order beers based on the "best abv for the buck" It just doesn't work that way and I am speaking solely based on taproom sales from one of the more well known suburban breweries.

The vast majority of craft beer consumers aren't spending most of their drinking time in brewery taprooms.

Yes, they do, purchase based on bang for their buck. Everywhere.

Don't get my stating that confused with any kind of support for that kind of logic.
