Who's brewing big beers for better days?

    Hi folks,

I wanted to start a more optimistic thread, one of hopefully many to come.

I remember reading about a brewery (or several?) in Alaska that shuts down for several months each year once it gets too cold to operate. But before they close they brew a number of big beers, imperial stouts and barley wines, that benefit from an extended rest.

In that spirit, I’m wondering if anyone is doing something similar right now? Any breweries keeping things running this way? Homebrewers with more time on your hands? I supposed you could also lager something too.

And for the rest of us non-brewers, if you were to do this what would it be? What would you call it? Let’s have some fun with this!

For my part, I’m calling my fantasy brew ReCOVIDery Strong Ale.

    Be safe and be well!

I love your idea of positive thinking. Unfortunately, I think all the breweries are scratching to make beer out of whatever supplies they already have on hand instead of committing cash to purchasing new materials. Kind of like many of us looking to make a magic dinner out of whatever is in the pantry. And sorry to be more negative, but I bet many smaller breweries have already decided to not start anymore batches until the future is more clear.
If I can be positive, this internet-order, curbside-pickup thing is working great around here and I think customers are stepping up to the plate to support these places. Traffic is pretty light picking the beer up also. I got to park right in front of one place Thursday. A parking spot that is never available. I heard a comedian once call this "TV parking", like in every TV show where the characters always get to park in the most convenient places.

I'm a homebrewer who's lucky enough to have a craft distiller who's waiting to dump a brandy barrel so I can stick an Imperial Stout into it. Luckily the homebrew shop was open yesterday so I have almost everything I need to get it done. While it's brewing I'll try to support local brewers through to go orders.

I brewed an Irish stout last weekend - will be kegging it Monday or Tuesday. If it turns out good I will certainly share the recipe. Looks to be around 5.5% abv. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

Hope everyone stays safe for more beers to come! As a non brewer- I imagine bourbon barrel aging a coffee-roasted nut/chocolate stout (think trail mix and coffee) Naming it on the go to celebrate being able to be be out and free again I guess lol. Just thought of that off the top of the head. Locally, I actually did see a brewery post this [IMG]

I just brewed a Helles Bock that should come in at 6.9%, if it does everything right during it's social distancing fermentation. I am not just brewing for myself, but have a lot of neighbors here in south east England that will be economically impacted by this. I hope to find a safe way to distribute them some liquid courage. Thankfully I just got in a large malt order before the proverbial fit hit the shan!

    I have another beer name:

    Shelter-in-IPLace India Pale Lager.

It will have at least six weeks of lagering to smooth things (the curve?) out.

I followed through so game on. I'm just waiting for fermentation to complete and off it goes into a barrel.
