First day of spring brought my first 3 shoots of Cascade from the rhizomes set out late last spring. The bines grew last year but were non-producing, except for one flower smaller than a dime. Each of the shoots are about an inch tall.
Hoping for better yield this year.

Anyone else seeing activity in their hopyard?

. . . here's hoping they are taller than your house by summer and drooping from the weight of cones (would make a nice "after" pic) . . .

That's my concern for the near term. Although spring is here by the calendar I'm confident freezing temps aren't over. Not sure if this was the right thing to do, but I covered them with a bit of loose soil and will also heap some dry leaves on top.

I have a few shoots starting up - It's a bit early for them, so I want to cut them down, wait another couple weeks at least before letting them get going.
I have 3 Cascade bines and 2 Newport. Generally get a pretty good harvest, but last year did't do much at all - I didn't even bother harvesting - would have gotten less than a pound total.

Mine broke ground a couple weeks ago - this picture is from March 15. Both my Cascade and Nugget. These are 8 year old rhizomes. I'm in Southeastern PA - Zone 6, but every year the spring flowers like our crocus and daffodils are coming up earlier.

Are you saying the crocus and daffodils are coming up earlier year after year....or they're coming up earlier this year than last?
The day lily emergence here are earlier this year than last, by at least two weeks.

Yes. Looking back at previous years' pictures we have of the first blooms of spring, the trend is earlier almost every year.

I recently saw this article about the long term trends in temperature, leaf emergence, and last frost date in my area.

I was getting excited my self... could go a couple inches before hitting frost so thought "maybe a two or three more weeks and I can start testing the ground around them" then this...

Yup, things are 'popping' here in Southeastern PA. A photo I took yesterday.

    Cheers!

Same here. Going to be supplementing my diet with a lot of hop shoots over the coming weeks I think

I only cut mine back after the frost. Then weed whack down to the ground usually in early April.

I just went out and checked mine. I've got a few shoots poking up. Still a bit early this far north. I grow Cascade, Perle, and Northern Brewers. I had Fuggle and Magnum which unfortunately, didn't take.

Got some grass growing among the hops, so, weeding today as well as weed whacking any old vegetation to bare dirt then removing from site.

I’ve not seen any shoots yet, but with most of the coming week to be in the 60’s and sunny, I expect to see some soon. I’ve got Cascades that are about 20 years old.
