It's a once a year release, and probably on the brew schedule to only be brewed one time at each facility. Hence the two versions. Re: You get what you get.
Last year the Chicago one was the 11.7

Chicago is only 5 hours away from me here in Kentucky and usually we get their version of One Hitters, but for some reason the six of Waldos I got today is 11.7% from Petaluma. First one of the year is always a treat for me, glad 4/20 came early this year.

Picked some up today at WF, looks like the 11.7% version dated 065 0 (March 5). Not sure why I did, probably FOMO. And it was there staring at me.
Classic Lagunitas flavor, but stepped up a few notches. First couple sips (gulps) were a bit syrupy, but after that just a strong IPA (perhaps my taste buds were numb by then). Surprised already a month old, maybe needs to be fresher? Or I'm getting old and don't need a 10%+ IPA anymore

Lagunitas already got paid this week. I picked up a 12 pack of Lil Sumpin Hazy which is quite good and a "more responsible" 7.2% ABV.

I have an unfortunate story about drinking one old Waldo's at a friend's and throwing up badly a few hours later. I am not blaming the beer because I think that it was a mixture of food/drinks that evening but since that event I haven't had it again. I would be open to trying it but I would only want a single, big T/DIPAs are just not something I drink often much anymore and only here and there beers if something new comes out that I am curious about e.g. my Founders Four Giants purchase recently.

Ah that's out now already? That ended up being one of my favorite new beers last year.

Saw this at Safeway yesterday. I picked it up, and I was making my way back towards checkout, another customer had the same idea and also snagged one. Instead of just eggs milk and bread, it was good to see at least someone else buying good beer.

No issues at the Liquor store a couple miles away, as traffic was moderate and CBS and 2019 BCBS were slowly but surely getting scooped up.

Mine is 10.8% and really tasty, but I want 11.7% now.

Forget the ABV, nothing has changed here folks. It's the same ol' nectar in a glass.

Grabbed a six pack last weekend. Waldo's Special Ale came early this year. Sadly I am on an alcohol hiatus will last until at least a couple of months. A couple months old Waldos > no Waldos at all.

Allow me to disagree. The first year it came out I was traveling between our new home and cleaning up our old one 1000 miles away. I bought and drank a case worth's here, then traveled up there and stopped in at a store not expecting to see anything. They had just put out a case and I bought that one too. I drank half of it and stuck half in the basement. When I came back in September it was perfectly drinkable.

Had this one in my hand while stocking up on beer today. Put the sixer back though. Not sure why

I think that you both may be saying the same thing and @frkonalsh2003 is saying with the > that Waldo's with a couple of months on it beats having none at all, at least that's my interpretation.

Found it at Ray's Liquor in Wauwatosa, WI yesterday, in single bottles and six-packs. I've had the 2016 version in said year, and that was a dandy, so I'm expecting the 2020 Vintage to be equally good.

Yeah, I misread the > as "means". Is it better fresh? You bet. But older Waldos' beats none.

Picked up a six pack last weekend. Planning to pop open my first two bottles this weekend. As usual, I will probably get another six pack...

I know this isn’t the right thread, but there’s a lot of hate for Lagunitas. Their beer got me into IPAs and they’re still good after being bought by Heineken? Can’t say they make a “bad” beer.
