I don’t know about you guys, but when I have sushi, an Asahi feels perfect. While eating Mexican food, a Modelo is great. Then when I am at a Dodgers game, I am perfectly fine with any AAL - while an IPA or Stout in any of these occasions would seem out of place for me. And then when I am at home, for the most part, you won’t see me drinking a Rice Beer, Mexican Beer or an AAL. What say you, BA’s? Do you only drink certain beers that “fit the occasion”?

IPA is the new black. Always elegant, never out of place.

Shit beers have no place. It's like the old saying about wine: don't cook with wine you wouldn't drink.

The ball game will be better with a nice beer, so will the food. Try a Tripel or Saison with Mexican food, or a Saison with sushi.

I'm always an IPA kind of guy, except with Thai food. This one little jank down the road has Singha on draft and that hits the spot with some 4 star Pad Kee Mao.

No one can ever pull a fast one on you, Jess! :stuck_out_tongue:

OP, if I'm having a German meal I'll try to get a German beer (maybe a couple other countries' foods too), but you basically defined macro beers in your post (AALs) that I just don't want to drink. For me, it's IPAs forever!

Funny. One of the things people who are dissatisfied with a beer/wine/spirit say is "I'll use it for cooking"

IPA really does work for any occasion.

Unfortunately at many sushi restaurants a Japanese beer is the only beer available, but given the chance for a pale ale or an IPA, I'd go that route every time.
Recently at a European restaurant, I had a Kronenburg, it was amazing and went perfectly with the food.
Thai and Indian food often have imports I'm willing to try, and typically compared to American Craft? No comparison!
American Craft is in my opinion among the best beer in the world and always my preferred beverage, well except for my morning coffee, which is essential!

Yup, and it is not unusual that at Mexican restaurants the beers available are Mexican lagers (AALs).

I personally have no issue with drinking a Modelo Especial while eating some Tacos. I sure as hell will not be smuggling in IPAs with me.

    Cheers!

To an extent I can certainly relate. Here recently being stuck at home I've been on a grilling/smoking kick and have specifically picked up Dales Pale Ale and Sierraveza to drink while cooking. I also have a supply of Yee-Haw Dunkel to drink with the BBQ. The Dunkel's slight underlying smoke pairs perfectly with the Q. I've also been making a lot of Chicken Soups from scratch and an IPA really cuts through the hearty broth nicely. I had been pairing something from TH or Hill Farmstead until they ran out...moving forward it'll be Bearded Iris or Southern Grist.

What do you think about Dos Equis with a Mexican entree? Personally a prefer is to the margaritas that are quite popular around my parts.

It all depends on the occasion.
If I'm at a gathering I have what's in the cooler. In a BYOB situation I bring some common styles as to not scare away the Craft Beer newbies. All bets are off at open bar.
I will say that Mexican Beer goes well with Tex-Mex, a nice smooth Vienna Lager works for me.
With Asian food I like a Beer on the dry side, such as Westcoast IPA....but not a Brut.
Many Continental European classics such as Marsala and Francaise are made with wine and for me, Beer does not match in such cases.
Looking forward to the return of occasions.

I find that a BA stout pairs nicely with a good steak, and a good American Wild works with a big feast like Thanksgiving

Agree with a previous review, IPA is the new black. Always in style.
But yes, there are certain beers that fit the occasion, or as I'd say, season.
The stout vanishes once I feel the warm sun rays outside on my bare legs in shorts.
Furthermore, when it's negative degrees outside it's hard to appreciate the flavors in a lager.
Ultimately I will always drink and IPA but rotate them out with lagers in the summer months and stouts in the winter months. So there.

When I'm self-flagellating, a milk stout feels perfect. When eating leftovers, a room-temp sahti is great but not a requirement. When I'm quarantined and the town decides to stop recycling, I feel the need to switch to peated whisky.

Soon as this damn lock down is over, I'm grabbing some Pad Kee Mao. God I miss food that isn't in my house.
