I had the Vanilla Cognac on tap and thought it was outstanding but I missed the bottles and haven't tried the others.

Wax Comb is pretty solid. It’s like a new school IPA with an old school twist. The chinook adds a nice bitterness.

Kane really opened up their delivery range for this upcoming week.

Depending on what they have, may place an order when they do union county on Wednesday

Yeah I wonder how they work out allotments. I presume it’s just a straight “this is what we got and all you animals have at it” kinda deal. Like in that Netflix movie The Platform, I presume Burlington County is gonna be on Floor 401, chewing on the chicken bones and licking the dirty plates leftover from Monmouth, Middlesex, Ocean and the rest of the garbage state :joy:

Yeah somehow Burlington got moved back a day... Unless there is a fortunate drop time I'm off getting any Kane delivery, not that they should/will care as they'll sell out. But at $75 minimum delivery and isolation as a solo beer drinker I'd need quite the lineup to justify it. Given SBX and DDH Party Wave are in the mirror... Plus DDH Head High 2000 as well, can't say their dreg options are likely to beat Tonewood or Tired Hands.

Yeah, I was gonna say, all of my Kane money is probably going to more Lawn Boi and maybe some Stratacaster. Hope it lasts

The tonewood account hinted at the possiblity of DDH Fuego for whatever that means. It was a response to a comment but figured I'd mention it. But even Strata with their crispy options curbside beats whatever Kane is likely to have by Thursday, sad to say (not a tonewood knock, btw, but more a comment on basically only the core three and maybe a middle of road NEIPA being available).

I hear you. Still, I’m a fan of the big 3 (HH, OH, SB), I just wouldn’t consistently buy $80 worth of them unless there were few local options left. Icarus isn’t far from Kane either so I usually hit them up as well if I’m up that way (they do home delivery too, though limited).

Regardless, I can’t complain about anything Kane is doing. I’ve purchased more of their beer this past month than I ever had before thanks to their Wegmans distro. Big props to how well they’ve adapted to this situation. Easily best in the state in that regard.

My county is today and was debating whether to order today or wait until next Monday. Of course I couldn’t wait and ordered today. I’m technically on vacation this week so a little extra drinking seems justified.

Wax Comb is great, didn't get this new batch yet, but last year I really loved it.

Yeah, I have a buddy in Ocean County and I told him last week the delivery day was Thursday so he was kinda bummed that it got pushed to Saturday this week.

I think now we are in a point where the state has been on lock down for about a Month and breweries may have altered their brewery calendar to focus on beers that they can turn around quick with canning on any day of the week - instead of just a "we need to drop 1-2 cans on Saturday"

Obviously this means we'll be less likely to see Mexican Brunch or many lagers during the next month or so - but I can see Kane dropping 1-4 non-flagship cans a week during random parts so each county has at least 1-2 can selections other than the flagships.

My debate now is to grab a mix case from Kane this week OR just grab a few 4pks of Twin Elephant's LSY (and another poison the well crowler - that was damn good). I'm sort of leaning to just having a nice variety and having something delivered... I also got a hazy fermenting that should net be around 35ish pints once it's kegged... So decisions decisions.

I have always preferred the base sb to the ba sb. That being said this years was the best it has been. The thing to remember is that is is a porter and not a stout. It isn't supposed to be thick but rather thinner and a bit more bubbly. I think kane nailed the style, the style is just not what most ba stout drinkers want.

Ive liked the bases for all of their big name stouts, Sunday, Mexican, ect better than the barrel versions.

yea it's been a while since i had either '16 or '17 BA Morning Bell and I recall not being overly thrilled with it; coffee was super muted and i had a tough time telling the difference between BA MB and the BA EB I had.

I will echo @Pork-Roll here in that these are not stouts, they are porters and at a much lower ABV than most adjunct stouts these days. That being said I think the reg versions are better than the BA, but do agree this years BA Sunday was really good. Well, the Vanilla Cognac which I tried at least

So yeah, Kane delivery came a couple hours ago. Looking at the silver lining of all this craziness I’m really enjoying these beer deliveries. Got all 7 available four packs and the two bottles. The wife loves Sneakbox so she was happy. When it was released I said no way to the $8 Vengeful Heart but today I said ah why not? Getting the Driftwood bottle took some of the sting out of seeing two new Driftwood bottles being released tomorrow.

Kane may label them "porters," but by any other measure, they are stouts. The term stout arose by referring to stronger porters as "stout porters." So either every stout in the world is a porter in general, or anything over 4-5% abv is a stout. Body or mouthfeel really has nothing to do with it. It's a strong, dark American ale.

That said, thank goodness they nail it with their anniversary ales and ANTEADs.

I've had plenty of absolutely excellent ~9% ABV barrel aged stouts, (some Hill stouts are around that), so I wonder if it's either the adjuncts they use, or the way they use them (timing of addition). I can't imagine barrel aging the base of SB in good barrels for a similar amount of time as ANTEAD and coming out with a worse product...but maybe it's the base recipe in general. I would have figured they'd have done some experimenting with all of that to come out with the best results, but who knows.

was hoping for something a little better than the archived bottles, these are both better than Medovik IMO. Selfishly was hoping for Peach Apiary and German Chocolate Cupcake.

I enjoyed this years BA Sunday Brunch. I personally favor non-BA morning bell because i love the dark coffee flavor it gets and i think the barrel mutes the flaor.

Thats a good point - these are not meant to be thick pastry stouts. What I've noticed, though, is that this year's BA brunches (I've had two sets at shares) weirdly seem thinner than the non-BA version, almost like drinking a syrupy fizzy cola. And the flavors seem off. The vanilla cognac tasted like artificial metal with a hint of vanilla - maybe just my palate though, people seem to like it. The only one I thought was decent was the regular cognac. This is in contrast to the regular Sunday Brunches, which I find milky, smooth, decadent, with perfectly balanced flavors and a joy to drink. I will absolutely keep buying base SB in the future but will likely pass on the BA sets.

I agree that 11% is big for a porter (and respectable abv for a stout for sure) I disagree with the idea that body is irrelevant. As the "stoutest porter" an inn might have, you would expect a more viscous mouthfeel and this has translated into modern styles. Otherwise why label the bells/brunches as porters and similar abv stouts like Christian Patrick or Port Omna as stouts?
