Who started charging what and when is up to debate, especially when it comes to blaming someone for kicking off a trend of 'excessive' pricing. I believe DLD first pushed the limit with $50 for a variant of DL. Then I think Goose Island charged $70 for a 16.9oz BC Rare '15... then TG charged $100 for KBBS... .and so on and so on, and same thing pre-DLD. Blaming TG for kicking off excessive pricing strategies in the craft brewing industry... not buying that.

Sure they didn't start the trend but they accelerated it to a level not before seen. Cost per oz...

    Dark Lord variant at $50 = $2.27
    BCBS Rate 2015 at $60 (MSRP was $60 not $70) = $3.55
    KBBS at $100 = $8.33

We are in day whatever of lockdown. It was bound to happen. It would be fun to see if we could generate a thread of the most overly talked about tropes for each brewery. Goose is obviously iNfEcTiOn. TG is price gouging.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    April 15, 2020

TOPPLING GOLIATH BREWERY CLAIMS SOLE OWNERSHIP OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY BEER PRICES FOR THE ENTIRE BEER INDUSTRY

Decorah, IA - We, Toppling Goliath Brewery, as the sole bearer of primary and secondary market value for beers since forever, especially barrel aged stouts, would like to repent for our bad, terrible behavior and offer everyone exactly what they want, no questions asked. We will be offering Assassin, SR-71, KBBS, Mornin Delight, and any future stouts to everyone at cost in either 128oz, 64oz, 40oz, 22oz, 16oz, 12oz, or 8oz formats (bottles/cans/crowlers/growlers/howlers/gas cans) with the ability to pick and choose any beer you like from our cellar at cost just like every other brewery does. We realize the irreparable damage we've caused to this necessity in everyone's lives and sincerely apologize because we've had 100% positive control over what people do after purchasing our beer. We understand the stress, frustration, and anger this may have caused in various online platforms, and possibly real life and @HawksBeerFan has made us see the light and our wandering ways. It is understandable that because we are the only brewery to make barrel aged stouts, that this would be frustrating. Again, with our most sincere apologies, please take this as a sign of our good will towards the community that we will, in perpetuity, ask what the community feels is the correct pricing for our products prior to release. This will ensure that the public has a say to ensure no future hard feelings.

In all seriousness, sure I wish they would have their prices lower but that ain't happening. You can either keep bringing it up each time or let it go and just buy other beer. I suggest the latter although this was quite a bit of fun for me to write a fake press release.

The forums wouldn't be the same without you pointing out the banality of it all.

I just hope other brewers don't try and take my stimulus money like TG is doing.

This is good. I can sell the Assassin's which will probably taste like Smuckers, then unload the undeniably sweet Assassin variants and solo dome the Zeelander. When that's all said and done I will purchase more Casey, Side Project and Sara and be infinitely more happy then drinking that retched sugar water. I'll also have an extra stimulus check in my pocket. Win win.

Edit: I forgot about Norsemans. Maybe I'll drink that one too...

2010 Rare was $43-50 5 months before FFF charged $50 for the first bottled variants in 2011.

2015 Rare was $60 at first IIRC, then $80 the next year.

Also Hair of the Dog was selling Dave for $80 in 1998, then $1,200 in 2010, and $2,000 in 2013... of course those proceeds went to charity..so a bit different.

This thread is just as repetitive as the Dark Lord Day and BCBS thread. So much fun...

It says this evening and tomorrow on Instagram. So the tomorrow emails may be the second chance ones. Also says they're sending out rejection letters.
