I mean, I'm just speaking historically. It also comes down to brewer quirks, and trends breaking away from tradition in not always logical ways. Why label a strong dark ale a porter? You could ask the brewer, I don't know, but this stuff has been running rampant for a while, and no one is adhering to any real set of rules.

Heh, speaking of, No Rules is a hot and sticky 15% and they call it a porter. It's stupid, frankly.

But in addition to that, I can't tell you how many stronger than 9% stouts I've had that have been thinner or lighter of body than Sunday Brunch. The boundaries have been unnecessarily blended, and it seems it just comes down to a person's preference towards a word moreso than a historical definition of style.

It will always be to me that a dark ale that might have been a porter at lower ABV becomes a stout once it hits 7%. Imagine breweries suddenly calling 9% aggressively hopped IPAs just single IPAs, or even Pale Ales. What's the goal, other than to confuse people? There's a lot more that goes into brewing a beer at higher ABV, and it starts at the construction of the recipe. So someone is going into it knowing they are clearly brewing a stout to start with, so it seems silly to me.

Well there’s more left than I thought there was gonna be for Burlington County. Wax Comb is pretty tempting but I doubt I’m gonna drop $80 on a case of it. Best of luck to my fellow South Jersey brothers & sisters who are going for it tomorrow

Came here to say "Unless theres another drop tomorrow morning, Burlington got the shaft again."

Two of the 3 "special" IPA cans sold out today. Agree with you, I can't justify dropping $80 on a case of just Wax Comb. They would have to have two other special beers I'm interested in for me to place a delivery order. Here's hoping.

They should really rotate the days each county is delivered to

I don’t necessarily disagree with you but doesn’t it seem like they’re releasing new items on random days of the weeek? If so then it’s possible for different counties to “make out” on different weeks. If they rotate days each county is delivered then they would also have to keep new release days consistent.

I definitely count myself lucky to have Magnify, Untied and now Kane able to deliver to me. But I do think part of the fun of BA forums like this one is us getting to play armchair QB for our local breweries. We all have the best ideas!

Is this Driftwood series worth trying at all?

It says brown ale very very close to a stout. I love it.

I remember when Driftwood was just barrel aged Drift Line. Brought home a growler of that my first ever trip to Kane like 6-7 years ago. Was good back then but can’t imagine drinking a 7% bba beer now being used to all these high abv monsters.

I love when Kane does traditional styles. I really wish they’d do them more often because every time they do they’re really well executed and always fun to drink; something I can’t always say about every 7-10% IPA or every 12% stout. Just to name a few:
    • Port Omna (stout)
    • Velvet Hand (ESB)
    • Sideshore (Pilsner)
    • Bierhalle (märzen)
    • Night Swimming (helles)
    • German bock (on-tap only)
    • Cloud Cover (witbier)
Lastly: I haven’t seen any of the Punch beers around in a while. Did they kinda move away from them or is it a summer thing?

yeah i think the last time was back in july maybe? I know they've done a march release before so may just not be a beer on their radar now for various reasons.

would love to get a glimpse into their brew calendar for the year. I mean just the sheer amount of HH they brew now-a-days...

Managed to grab a Party Wave, Wax Comb, Counter Current and a bottle of Vanilla BA SB. Very pleased. Thank you Kane for keeping me responsible and away from the liquor stores.
