I was thinking that since they have their own GABF category and are increasing in popularity, it might be time for Fresh Hop Ales to be an official style on Beer Advocate. Right now if you are looking for the best fresh-hopped beers out there, you have to jump around looking at individual scores and reviews, which is very time-consuming. They very much fit into the style categories they currently occupy (APA, IPA, DIPA, etc.), but since they are not compared to the 'normal' hopped beers (Stone IPA, SNPA, PTE, etc.) as frequently as they are to each other, it seems they are in fact a unique style. Certainly there are some issues, but I figured that this would be a fun topic to discuss. Thanks.

IF Barrel beers do not get their own catagory then Wet Hops should not. The difference between barrel beers and non barrel beers is WAY bigger then wet vs dry hops....

That was more of a rant, I think wet hop and barrel aged beers should have seperate catagories.

I am a huge fan of Two Brothers' Heavy Handed, which is a wet-hopped IPA and I want to find more beers like it. I had Harvest from Founder's this year and it was fantastic, as was the Fresh Hop Ale from Great Divide.

Wet-hopped IPAs are vastly superior to the dry-hopped ones.

Wet hops do not change the style, it is simply a variation of a style. No need for new style.

If we had this, Surly Wet would be #1. That is all

No to a new style but disagree with you that wet hops do not change the style

Wait.. what? How can you say no to the new style but say wet hops change the style? Don't you need a new style to change the style? I am missing something there.

To further my previous point, an IPA brewed with Fuggles is vastly different than an IPA brewed with Chinook which is vastly different than an IPA brewed with Citra. The fact of the matter is no matter how different they are, they are still IPAs. No matter how different wet hops may be from dry hops a Wet Hopped IPA is still an IPA. You are brewing the same style of beer, it is only your hop selection that changes.

Aficionados and neophytes alike can benefit from simplifications IMO. Aficionados should be able to recognize style variation.

No wait ! It enhances ipa's and 2ipa's does not change them that is why i say no new style the rest of your post is pure rhetoric and your opinion which again i disagree with IMO

Understandable but in terms of searching this site it will be faster.

This is why I would support a tagging system on this site. I think we have an appropriate number of styles, if anything we have too many. Introducing a tagging system may eliminate much of the push for new styles while providing the benefit people are after.

I wonder if a fresh hop IPA is still distinguishable from a regular IPA if you drink it six months after bottling.

Why would say no to a new style yet support a tagging system so unnecessary and so contrary IMO

Not in favor of any new styles, in fact I think there should be a drastic reduction, especially ones that cause unlimited confusion and are nearly universally misused by brewers looking for a marketing ploy.
I'm looking at you "Imperial Porter"

When there's a thread with some reasonable discussion going on, I just look for the red Chuck Norris avatar. His opinion is the right one. And here it is again. and again.

I think IPA'S as well as well as BA brews need new classifications. I would love to see IPA'S with a double, triple, and quad classification based on ABV.
    Singles up to 7.5
    Doubles to 10
    Triples to 12
    Quads over 12
I just really notice a lot of differences in them based on ABV.
Definitely would like to see the fresh hop category as well.
