Aventinus,,,man this is such an amazing beer. Spinning some avant garde jazz with Cecil Taylor. This is a great album, on a cool indie record label, New World Recordings, from 1978.







Got some various North Coast beers to open tonight. Like aged Old Stock, some Brother Thelonious, and Pranqster. Will report back

Huge thunderstorm just rolled through; first one I’ve seen since last fall. Scared the dogs, but we need the rain. Since it’s dark and stormy (and 80 degrees ) outside, another stout - Cycle’s “Rare Dos” (2018), aged one year in whiskey barrels:



Poured at 57 degrees, black with ruby edges and a fizzy quick dark tan head; a small island survives poor retention; solid thin ring; medium plus legs and lots of small dots of lace upon swirl. Cocoa nibs, sweet dark fruits and a touch of whiskey in the nose. Bittersweet dark chocolate and roasted coffee bean bitterness; sweet brown sugar, molasses, whiskey, burnt brown bread/toast; fruity black cherries and prunes middle; layers of black licorice, toffee, chocolate and char in the finish. Dusty dry cocoa powder feel; light carbonation; medium body; smooth but not lux; dry oak/barrel tongue coating; very little booze or warmth from 10% abv. Overall, nice rounded, soft alcohol notes with chocolate and dark fruits; thinner than expected, but so easy to drink.

My last triple NEIPA from Dry&Bitter, really good, in par with US NEIPAS !

 

Right after I took this picture, the wind blew this can about 30 yards. This is a good follow-up to the mosaic NEIPA that I drank right before this. This is sweeter and more citrusy. Aslin Beer Company is quite impressive!

 

Good morning BA
My lawn work is complete for this morning. It helps having two teenagers that are so bored that lawn mowing and car maintenance have become coveted distractions from at home isolation.

There is an entire thread to the contrary, but I have enjoyed this six pack more than any craft beer I've purchased in weeks. It will be a spring and summer of yellow fizzy beer for me.

My son says he thinks about me every time this song plays on the radio...

Final verdict, for those who don't want to follow the link:

"Overall, this would be a superb BA stout. Would be, except that it is far too hot. The strong alcohol heat significantly takes away from the underlying excellence.

Taking a page from @GreenBayBA play book today, I’ve capped the Rare Dos and I’m cleaning my palate with a DIPA - Two Roads Brewing’s “Two Juicy”:



Thanks to @Ocalafox for this beer! Light, easy drinking bitter grapefruit, lemongrass, lime, tangerine. Semi sweet malt base. Pine and grapefruit rind on the backend. My kind of “NEIPA”. Enjoy the rain wherever you may find it...Cheers Y’all!
