    Hello all,
I'm going to attempt to brew the "All Together" clone beer. This beer has a pretty big whirlpool hop addition, with an even bigger dry hop addition...A 3oz whirlpool addition and a 10oz dry hop edition to be exact for a 5 gallon batch. With all of that being said, if I use the conventional T-90 hop pellets, I'd probably be lucky to end up with 3.5 gallons of beer to package up when all is said and done.
I was thinking on ways to minimize the amount of beer that's going to be lost due to hop absorption and I thought of cryo hops. I've read up on how they're to be used and supposedly 1oz will have the same effect as 2oz of T-90 pellets. If that's true, it will save a little more beer for me in the end.
Does anyone here have experience with using cryo hops? if so, what was it good, and what's your thoughts on the finished beer opposed to using conventional T-90 pellets?

Over the years I have received many packages of cryo hops while attending HomebrewCon. I have used all of those packages in my homebrewing (predominantly for end of boil and/or dry hopping). I was always pleased with those beers and FWIW I have not noticed any 'differences' vs. regular pellet hops; and I use the cryo hops as 1 ounce = 2 ounces of regular hop pellets. Having stated this I have never purchased cryp hops.

My suggestion to you since you have concerns of beer wastage is to use Cryo hops. I suspect you won't notice a difference other than having more beer to drink.

    Cheers!

Cryo hops are rather different than the normal T-90 pelletized version.

If you were to make the same beer and sub one for the other it would be blatantly obvious.

Cryo hops have much more oily/resinous character to them. They lack a lot of the bracht, or leaf, material which contains quite a bit of the fruity/floral aspects of the hop. Resinous is the best word that I can think of to describe the profile.

For a while there were some breweries making 100% Cryo beers. Melvin made one for a while called Your IPA I think. it was a great representation of what Cryo tasted/smelled like. Had a Skadoosh from The Alchemist that was all Cryo as well.

That being said you could definitely blend some in. And maybe save a little bit in the way of beer. 2 to 1 ratio is a good call but it will result in a different beer.

When you see these dry hop ratios some of these breweries are using it’s amazing how little money they’re actually making on some of these heavily dry hopped beers. Both when it comes to expense of hop and yield. Just imagine all the Monkish beers that are dry hopped at twice that rate.

Brulosophy conducted a exBEERiment comparing regular pellet hops to Cryo hops:

“A total of 21 people of varying levels of experience participated in this xBmt. Each participant was served 2 samples of the pellet hop beer and 1 sample of the Cryo Hops beer in different colored opaque cups then asked to identify the sample that was unique. While 12 tasters (p<0.05) would have had to identify the unique sample to reach statistical significance, only 5 (p=0.88) made the correct selection, indicating participants were unable to reliably distinguish a Pale Ale hopped solely with pellet hops from one hopped only with Cryo Hops.”

    The author commented:

“My Impressions: Despite my best efforts, and even with the preconceived idea of what to look for, I was unable to tell these beers apart over multiple triangle test attempts.”

You didn’t just reference a Brulosophy experiment did you? Really?

I’m not going to bother searching the internet for all the professional brewers and hop companies that will say something vastly different. Those are the references I’d look for, personally.

There are articles on YCH's page discussing their properties and how to use them.

One of my recipes I dry hop with Mosaic. Ive brewed this recipe numerous times, and the best taste is with dry hopping with cryo. Its a smash recipe. I use 3.5 OZ of cryo.

I was wondering, did you replace the reg mosaic with cryo mosaic oz for oz or did you cut by half like they suggest?
