Now I realize this may be a controversial opinion, but I agree with everyone that it is fantastic to see Dave starting things off again! It's been good seeing you pop in from time to time, but to see you at a point where you're able to join in the festivities even if only occasionally is awesome. My uncle/godfather had a similar experience a couple of years ago where it took them telling him he may not make it out of the hospital for him to completely reevaluate some things, and after being told that if he made it out of the hospital, he would only have a couple of months left, he's looking better than ever some ten plus years later. Diet was a big one for him as well (and in fact I may have sent you some of the hotsauce that he poured himself into and helped save his life back in a previous BIF though I can't be certain).
Good to have you back

On to the beer for today. I've had a couple of Floodland brews on tap and enjoyed them well enough, but the only other beer of theirs I've had in the bottle completely blew me away. Spoiler alert: this one falls somewhere in the middle. I think it's enjoyable, interesting, and good, but not great like the other bottle I had.

Pour is a largely opaque pale yellow that's lighter than what the picture suggests. Interestingly enough the first glass poured actually resolved to a slightly more clear body by the time it was drank. Both had some floaties, however. The head from a fairly aggressive pour was fuzzy white and maxed out at maybe a finger or so before settling pretty quickly to a buzzcut in the corners. Big wet bubbles languorously work their way topward throughout the existance of the glassbound liquid.

Nose is a lush tapestry of classic characters including some tart lemon, green apple, oak, and a whole bunch of white grapes. Some mild earthiness sits as a substrate below that to ground things somewhat and keep it from veering too far in one direction.

Flavour of course carries a lot of the same ideas as the aroma, but it also has a couple of really interesting assertions that are kind of hard to really nail down. There's even more grape here than the nose, and there's an almost perfume-y sweet thing winding around the lemon and the grape and some almost citrus-like hopping to give bitter next to the tart.

Body is largely dry and has a good supportive level of effervescence. The finish is tart and dry and brings back a bit of the oak alongside lots of grapes. This gives the impression of a lot of competence and really well put together, but I'm just less enamoured of the final product as I was of other offerings of his.

Cheers all y'all hope you're staying safe and maintaining something approximating sanity in these trying times

    First time with this one!

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a semi-transparent yellow with a good amount of white head. Nose is nice grapefruit and some tropical fruit, a nice amount of resin, wheat, and a bit of grass. Taste is surprisingly subtle - definitely a good amount of hoppy notes, orange and grapefruit peel bitterness, and maybe a hint of lactose. Really smooth and amazing. Mouthfeel is dry and fairly light.

Yeah eventually I will get my hands on some when its over hopefully.
    The ones Ive had:
    Dogs and Boats
    Stunner for the Win
    Frank & Berry
    Grovestand
Out of those probably Stunner was my favorite. I may be getting a bit sick of hazy which contributes. Still have to say as of now Riff has been my favorite. Cheers brother!

So good to hear your trajectory is celestial!!! And thanks for starting us off. It's a welcome feeling here. I'm going with something on the sour side as well.

A thousand thanks to @larryi86 for sending me this in NBS BIF #11
Release #008 This bottle shows ABV of 6/5%.

Pours a brilliant gold. White effervescent foam leaps up and quickly dissipates to a thin film.
Nose begins with a crisp blend of peach, slightly acidic vinegar notes, and dry white wine notes cut by some earthy funk.
Bright Brett laden peach leads, but tapers off before getting too funky. Sour notes seem firm in the beginning as well, but retreat just enough to let the peach share the spotlight. Some dry white wine notes peek in as well.
Feel is crisp, a little bit of a tongue scraper from the sour notes. All good. Active carbonation throughout.
    Overall, a solid peach wild.

Good evening everyone. Got some special stuff lined up for this evening while I'm watching the Last Dance episodes 3 &4. First up is this absolute gem from @Roy_Hobbs - Amour Fou.
Pours a deep dark burgundy color. Thin velvety parchment colored head is present with excellent retention. The aroma on this is just killer - Ripe fresh cherries, red wine, oak, with a tart funkiness coming through on the nose.

Taste follows the nose with the red wine, fresh cherries, and a strong tartness up front that immediately results in that puckering sensation right up front. Once you get past the puckering the underlying biere de garde starts to shine though as you get some light malty notes with some spicy yeast. The wine barrels impart a nice rounded oakiness to this with some tannic notes. The hops are light, but present on the back end. The finish is drier and pretty abrupt.

Feel is definitely tart up front producing a physical puckering sensation. Sprightly but not overly carbonated. Dry finish.

What a delicious beer - this is one of those beers that sets you up to eagerly anticipate the next sip while dreading the eventual coming of the last sip. This beer is just delicious and so well crafted - the base beer is still able to shine in this even with the addition of the cherries and the aging in the wine barrels.

[IMG] Usually not my thing. Maybe Ive tried 3 or 4? But I have really liked what Ive had from Dorchester brewing so far so I said Fk it.
New England Ipa with Strawberries, Raspberries, Lactose, Citra and Mosaic. Yup milkshake IPA I guess.
Pours a turbid dirty orange with a rose like underlying hue. Head is white 1 finger and short lived with zero lacing.
Aroma right away is berry, mostly red and predominantly strawberry but there are subtle notes of bluberries and notes of lemon.
Taste follows with loads of natural strawberry flavor but tropical flavors and dark berry notes are rather apparent along with lemon zest and peel. It is pleasingly tart. There is a slight sweetness but nowhere near what I expected.
Feel is lighter than you would expect from a "milkshake" IPA, sprizy carbonation and although tart it has a soft feel and mild sfrom acidulated malt and lactose. Nowhere near as heavy as I would have expected. There is a slight metallic taste in the finish but its not offensive.
Overall way better than I expected and definitely worth a try. A nice little after spicy dinner beer.

A little late to the party but I have a nice looking Bohemian Pilsner from Bog Iron Brewing in scenic Norton Mass. Cheers NBS fans.

A medium strong pour was needed to reach a finger of white soapy foam with average retention and small blotches of lace. Pale straw color with some haze, I can't read through it.

Cracker greets the nose with fresh baked bread and abundant floral hops.
Very faint alcohol and some pie dough lurk in the background.

Neutral on sweetness with low bitterness, not much to report, basic Pale/Pilsner malt profile with mild hops and low bitterness. Very well attenuated with a quick clean finish.
The aftertaste is short with a slight rise in hop bitterness.

Light body with lasting carbonation, smooth easy drinker. About as true to style as possible, labeled as a Bohemian Pilsner, nailed it.
    BB 10/1/20.

Most of those Rhinegeist fruit ales are indeed ciders, but some do have malt/hops added. All about labeling and legal crap. Less taxes per volume labeled as beer, so they label it as an ale. Go to their site and look for the ones that show N/A for malt/hops/IBU = Cider.

My next new beer is Sünner Kölsch from Cologne. Poured from fridge temp. Pours a nice golden yellow - transparent with a nice amount of white head. Nose is wheat, salt, apricot, bread, and a kiss of tropical fruit. Taste is crisp and smooth. A hint of lemon, a bit of salt, wheat, leather, and a really nice earthy note. This is very refreshing and easy to drink. Very nicely done. Mouthfeel is light and crisp.

Checking in from the left coast where it's been awfully hot these last few days. Starting this evening with a beer from the NBS BIF from the very generous @thebeers . When you get a 3 Floyds beer in a box, a lager was unexpected, particularly a rather obscure lager style that I'm not sure I've had before.

3 Floyds Region X - export lager/dortmunder. 6% abv, no date on the can.

Pours a clear golden with just over a finger of white head that dissipates relatively quickly, minimal lacing in the glass.

Aroma is mostly bready with just a hint of herbal hops.

Taste is quite refreshing - lightly sweet maltiness, some grassy herbal hops, finishing with a medium bitterness. Stronger flavors overall than a typical pilsner.

Mouthfeel is crisp with a medium carbonation, finishes somewhat dry and the bitterness lingers for a good while.

Overall really enjoying this particular beer. Not sure if it's true to style, but it's a beer I'd definitely drink again. Thanks @thebeers !

I did that yesterday and noticed specifically for Wowie the N/A for malt and hops and a big, fat 0 listed under IBU. Good call on the marketing angle...
