    Sounds like a dream.

No really, given the current climate, a day like this literally sounds like a dream.

Funny thing is I was there about 2-3 years ago. They had to move to the suburbs because the crime in Trenton is off the charts. I met up with old friends to hit up the new location, ordered a Heineken and a California burger, and the same bartender that served me at 18 slid that beer across the bar 46 years later. Kinds cool, I assume he’s part of the family.

Last time I had Michelob was about thirty years ago. I remember they always gave me head aches. Even if I only had a couple. Budweiser? No problems.

My girlfriend's father has a great story about working for AB in their Merrimack NH brewery in the late 60's/early 70's.
In those days they were allowed to drink on the job. One night he was supposed to be doing something to the tanks involving opening a valve or something of that nature. He had been drinking a little too much. There were tanks of Budweiser on certain floors and Michelob on others. Whatever the process was, it was different for each beer. In somewhat of a haze, he got off the service elevator on the wrong floor and proceeded to do his task to the wrong batches. The next day he was called into the office and informed that he had ruined x amount of barrels of Michelob. Long story short, he kept his job and the tanks of Michelob were transferred and were bottled as Budweiser.

More than 10 years ago a small store where I live was selling a beer called Michelob Golden Pilsner. The owner said it was an experimental beer only being brewed in Newark and test marketed in Metro NYC. It was an excellent beer, Just as good as Brooklyn Pilsner or Summerfest. I guess it did not pass the test because it was only around for about 1 or 2 months.

Nice flashback there. I remember a variety pack with most of these in it...The Red was not bad as I remember. Honey Lager a bit sweet.

For what it's worth, I checked a couple local places' websites, and they only had Michelob Light, not Michelob Original. And obviously Mich Ultra and its variants.

All about knowing when to say when -- on both accounts. Besides, I made a pretty good killing at the Let It Ride table, I think I was one of the few who beat the house that week.

I see the sign for Battista's Hole in the Wall in the background of the 3rd photo. That was the Home of the bottomless glass of wine last time we were out. A good deal if you like Carlo Rossi Pisano!

Original is the only one worth buying.

This is (was) true but it has become harder to come by over the years and now it is not available in my market at all as confirmed by the local AB distributor. I guess Yuengling is going to be my new inexpensive gas station beer to keep around for times that I just want an inexpensive drinkable lager in the refrigerator.

I would occasionally pay an extra quarter to get a Mich over a Bud at the local bar back in the day, what a treat.
    Cheers.

I had no idea. We only had 6pks of Oktoberfest and occassionally doppelbock in these parts...how is the quality? Is it somewhat within decent code dates?

I actually miss Michelob Light. I rated it higher than the Original. Shrugs.

Funny--I also remember a Michelob Special Dark. And liked it.

    I also enjoyed "Mich Light."

At my local Total Wine, I regularly buy Spaten Original at 3 months or less and I've bought Optimator at 2 months. The beers have been very good. At certain spots in Wisconsin, the dates have been a little older, but still very good and the beer has been good.

If I recall correctly (maybe @jesskidden can help with this), mich special dark was a very short lived experiment by AB. I remember being very hopeful that it would be good, and would be a cheaper version of San Miguel dark (which I was drinking a fair amount of back then). I also hoped it would be a suitable substitute for Beck's dark and heineken dark, but no such luck. My memory is that it was a bit more expensive than expected and was lighter and gassier than expected. I assume others felt the same, as I don't think it was around long.

Yeah, but that was from an earlier period - mid-70s and 80s. Started out as a draught-only beer (a number of large and mid-sixed brewers had draught-only "dark beers", including Stroh and Schlitz) called "(Anheuser-Busch) Classic Dark" and was being bottled by the early 80s under the Michelob brand name. Seems to have lasted into the late 90s based on AB promo material.

Funny they didn't brew it again during that crafty "Michelob Brewing Co." era of the 1990s-early 2000s (or, maybe they did but just not at the time of that promo shot?)
