I'm sitting at Frisco's in columbia drinking this and I can't help but to notice its similarity to bcbs. Has anyone else tried dr #2 and noticed the same? I tried it side by side with dr #1 and it's much better (#2 is retribution blended with repent, #1 is retribution blended with colossus).

    Thoughts?

Hmmm, I am intrigued. I usually shy away from DuClaw stuff due to 1) The price and 2) I feel like most of their stuff finishes way too sweet.

But you had me at BCBS.

Dr#2 is certainly sweet, but so is bcbs. I'm not saying it's a match, but I think its interestingly close to bcbs.

Will have to find some bottles of this once it comes out. DR1 was way to sweet for me to drink more then a taster, but am definitely intrigued by this.

I agree with you completely. I tried both #1 and #2 at Frisco's this past Wednesday along with the regular Retribution. Retribution was pretty hot this year. I may have enjoyed the Divine #2 better than either Retribution or Repent as a base. Really nice blend of the two of them. Any idea how much/if they are going to bottle #2 this year?

I too tried both at Frisco's on Wednesday. #2 blows away #1 IMHO. Definitely more of bourbon bomb, but not so much BCBS in my mind. Though I guess the bourbon part does remind a bit of BCBS if I'm stretching for it. Guessing it is still on tap today if people want to try it on draft. Either way, I'm sure people can go pick up a bottle soon at Perfect Pour for a billion dollars and decide for themselves.

I don't know about BCBS, but i definitely thought the most recent batch of DR was better than the first. I thought maybe it was just my sketchy memory playing tricks on me, but i'm glad to see others agreeing.

I thought batch 1 was disgusting. It was so sweet, it nearly made me gag. However, batch 2 sounds intriguing, though to be honest, I find most of their high alcohol beers to be way too sweet (colossus and repent). Of course if I happen to see it on tap over at Max's (sigh), I'm sure I'll have to buy a taster, just to see what it's like. :-)

All I know is that regular Retribution has been hard as hell to find this year. I haven't seen any Virginia distribution, but luckily I work in a part of MD that saw a few retail bottles.

That said I have a few 2011 bottles that I cellared that aged-out really well.

I live in the Reading PA area and if anyone would like the rest of my case of DuClaw IIPA (probably 18 bottles) you can have it for exchange of 1 bottle of something interesting. BM for arrangement.

I didn't think #2 compared to BCBS at all with too many sweet overtones. #1 was just unbearable as it was way too sweet.

Like I said above, that is the problem I've always had with DuClaw beers. Every single one I've tried. Not sure what their house ale yeast is, but it just doesn't work for me. Always wondered if I was the only one who thought this.

As I think this thread shows, your impression appears to be fairly typical. After I sampled the DR 1 at Max's last month, I remember thanking my lucky stars that I didn't pick up a bottle or two (Fishpaws, thankfully, had just run out when I stopped by). I can't imagine what I would do with an entire bomber of that sickly sweet stuff.
