Yup, it's time for me to get my butt out there to pull some weeds and dead bines.

Mine just started to poke through today. Guess I should work on getting some rhizomes dug up.

I remember when my hops were young and had manners.

The boxes have contained them a bit but they do shoot up outside that I have to cut back. My four plants aren't that young, this is their 8th year

Wow. What varietal? My chinook and centennials look like wild men right now. I'll nab some pictures if I can figure out how.

Wow! Must be a bit warmer in Penn than NY. I haven't even put my lines up yet.

The one in the picture is Nugget, I have 2 Nugget and 2 Cascade. Like I said, this is after I pruned back to just a couple bines per rope to get them trained. There were probably about 30 or 40 bines per plant that I cut back to the ground.

How many bines per plant do you guys usually train ? I’ve been doing two the last couple years, and they tend to get pretty tangled up by end of season, which isn’t really a problem, but I wonder if I’d get more cone production / neater spacing if I just allowed one bine per plant ?

I do two ropes per plant, two bines per rope - so a total of 4. I have mine set up in an angled rigging situation using a short and longer set of support poles so that each rope ends up providing about 25 feet of growing length.
This is a picture from a previous year - the 8 ropes are from 4 plants
