I don’t want to cause a controversy and I respect all local brewers and want them to succeed. During the quarantine I’ve had a chance to try some local breweries I hadn’t had much of before. Part of this is a change in distribution, but honestly a lot is just me drinking more.
I found of the somewhat hyped breweries I’ve tried some have stood up, and some haven’t. For example...
*Alvarado Street and Cellarmaker- I’ve found about 50% to be good and the other half to be just ok.
*henhouse, ghost town & SARA to be consistently great.
Anyone had other experiences with new breweries in Cali that either did or didn’t live up to the hype?

Casa Agria & Humble Sea have impressed them shit out of me during these quarantine times.

Most of the hyped breweries don’t live up for me. I find that they’re rarely hyped for how the beer tastes.

Can't pass on casa agria free shipping for 3, four packs. Won't say they are the best ipas, but consistently value of your buck. Last batch of rem cycle was so good.

I ordered Highland Park, never had them. Beer was totally outstanding in every way. I ordered Cellarmaker and I am underwhelmed. I bought a mix case of North Park and it was great. Party Cup, Hop Fu and Covington. I really want to try Sorta Mostly Dead but I have not yet seen it. I am also getting alot of 4pks and crowlers from Culver Beer Company in Carlsbad. It is my most frequented local spot. They have a killer Deli for to go sandwiches as well.

I had a case of Sante IPAs which I hadn't tried before and was not really impressed.

Casa Casa Casa. 2 drops, 7 cans from these guys. All good to great. I’ve seen the name Casa Agria pop up here occasionally. But never paid any attention. I would always head towards Cellermaker, Fieldworks or ASB on my quick plane trips. Or if one of my locals had Moonraker cans I would grab them. There’s a couple of new breweries I would like to get a hold of. Slice and Moonlighting. I haven’t heard any mention on Moonlighting ipa’s. Just on their Czech and Death cans. The Casa can drop is a very good mix with the other local offerings.
Question for those who have purchased Casa A kegs online. Does the free shipping apply for kegs shipped in California?

Another vote for Casa. I've only ordered one box from them (so far) but all three beers were really enjoyable.

I've taken advantage of the shipping while also supporting Burgeon. I've ordered a lot of Fieldwork which I've always enjoyed when a buddy would bring a crowler down. Yojo from Moonraker was a surprise hit for me and the guy I split the case with. Looking forward to getting to try Contains No Juice this next week. We still have about 5 breweries we'd like to order from but have to get through the stock first.

Was quite dissapointed in the last two batches of juice bag. Haven’t had a good batch in 2 years

Regarding Moonlight the Delhi by Dinghy is a great "old school" 7.7% west coast IPA but the stand out for me with their recent releases is the "dim lights" smoked lager. It's just a really easy drinking enjoyable beer and the abv is 6.3% so you can have a few.

I’ve mentioned moonlight a few times recently. The name of their game is traditional and balanced. Definitely west coast style. Nothing over-the-top. Would recommend.

I thought the Sante IPAs, especially Spots and Dots, were all good, but the saisons from them were all great. Cellarmaker's BBA Vanilla Latte Vastness of Space was outstanding. HPB and North Park win for the best WCIPAs I've tried while in lock down.

Looking forward to trying some more but I’ve mostly stuck to local stuff for now. Highland Park is consistently great and I was super impressed with everything I got from them so far. Since Monkish started curbside pickup, I’ve had the opportunity to get more stuff from them, all of which has been excellent.

My next orders will most likely be from North Park and Humble Sea. For North Park, I haven’t seen much talk about their hazy beers? Has anyone tried those?

North Park has been my newly discovered brewery that I’ve been extremely impressed with. Had heard good things but had never had any beers prior to the shipping option.

I'm still trying to find a world class IPA, after being let down by the Sante haul.

I know I love Alvarado's CNJ and Monkish, but the latter is impossible to get, and the former I have had a million times. I am not a fan of HBP's haze generally and I've been hearing mixed things about Fieldwork and Humble Fog. Any recs?

Humble Sea is the real deal, I'm one of those that really likes Fieldwork too, give me a can of fresh Pulp and I'm good to go.

    Cheers,

Humble is pricier as for hazys go. Same with alvarado. Good beers but definitely more expensive
