Kim (the inventor of the Brut ipa) is now the head brewer at Woods and has brewed a few bruts there since taking over.

The only sour IPAs I’ve ever liked were from Hudson Valley and Pure Project.

Got a crowler of SLICE Brighter Daze West Coast IPA. Pretty damn good. I really hope SLICE starts packaging more of their WEST COAST ipas in the 16oz format. Most have just been crowler or on tap.

BRIGHTER DAZE West Coast IPA! Coming in at 7.2% - Simcoe, Citra, Centennial, and CTZ hops create bright flavors and aromas of mango, lime, sap, tangerine, and dank.

I think a lot of sour IPAs were intended to be regular IPAs but got infected.

[old fart]Nothing better than a Triple IPA which smacks you in the face with hops and kisses you with the sweet malt finish. You need to live more youngster! [/old fart]

"Back in my day there wasn't triple IPA. We still called them double IPAs."

Just starting to pop a few cans from my North Park haul from yesterday. This is everything I love in a well made WCIPA. Pithy citrus from A-Z and just enough hoppy dankness and spruce tip notes to balance it all together. So refreshing and delicious. I'm a fan.

    Cheers,

QEPD (RIP) Social Kitchen. Seems like they closed just before everything shut down, which feels like a lifetime ago by now.

While I would have agreed 3-4 years ago, I must say, Pure Project is killing it in this department. I drank an embarrassing amount of Blue Magic and still want more...

I should be clear, I don't want something that tastes like it's 2 years old, I just want a thick, slightly sweet base for my hop punch! KRBC Citra and PtY are two typical beers fitting this description in my mind...

Re: Woods Beer & Wine Co

Caveat: Only been to their taprooms twice prior to Kim Sturdevant's arrival.

My wife accuses me of being a hipster. And I feel like Woods is too hipster for their own good:

    - Typical price: $8/9 for < pint size pours
    - Soul-less interiors that mimic the trendy restaurants: dim lighting, wood panels, etc
    - Non-caring staff
    - Beers tout special ingredients - local honey this, bay leaf that, and the end result is a mildly different take on average beers?

I do not get how they were able to open 5 locations. I think they cater to a certain type of audience, but I don't really know people in the beer scene who frequent it. I hope Kim does something with their beer program, but I'm not inclined to revisit anytime soon.

Their shtick is adding herbs and related local ingredients to their beers, which I don’t particularly care for, but I can’t fault them for being original. My favorite of their beers might be their kellerpils, because it’s an outlier in their portfolio for not having added ingredients and is a solid no frills Pilsner. Kim has released several new beers, including a hazy which he has dialed in after a few batches.

Thick sweet base? I though this was the WCIPA thread, not the hazy thread. Give me dry with some bitterness.

That’s exactly what it was for!!! They should provide an open tap for all AS meetings! It’d be fun to see how it goes drunk!
