Anyone crack a vanilla benthic howler yet? How's it compare to a vanilla benthic can? Just curious.

 

Has anyone opened a 2018 Benthic bomber recently? I had 3 left that I bought at HA on release day and stored appropriately ... just opened one and it was sour as hell ... drainpoured it and opened the other two ... same issue. Serves me right for waiting too long to open them. Opened my last 2017 Benthic and luckily that one still holds up.

 

On the bright side, think about all that space you just made.

My 2018 Benthics and variants were just fine. Bummer.

 

That's not good. I'd recommend you let Half Acre know. They'll probably tell you what you already know and what people here will also tell you (recommended to drink sooner rather than later/not store), but it's good for them to know about this kind of a quality issue. If you had kept an IPA for 5 years and then told them, 'hey, this tastes sour,' I could see that being dismissed. But it's not that uncommon for imperial stouts (whether barrel aged or not, whether additive containing or not) to be cellared/aged for 2+ years and if things have gone sour (pun intended) in that time, that's worth noting. I would want to know if I was the brewer/brewery.

 

Same thing happened to me last year around this time with 2018 Benthic bombers. I let them know, and got crickets back.

I'm generally not the biggest double daisy fan, but that sounds intriguing.

 

I've had the Hill Farmstead beer they are referring to and I don't remember it blowing me away.

 

Interesting choice of hop. Is this one becoming more popular now? I've had Hill Farmstead's Riwaka Single Hop Pale Ale, and I found it to be more herbal, piney with a bit of spice. Sort of like a combo of Sabro and Nelson hops. It's not my favorite hop, but I wouldn't turn it away.
