    Morning all,

Kicking off the “big” Saturday thread pretty early with a French new-to-me IPA. It wasn’t cheap but pretty good. Simcoe and Citra Hops FTW...

    Cheers...

Happy World Whiskey Day! Third Saturday in May, founded in 2012. Look it up.

Nothing whiskey barreled in my collection, I believe, and it’s slightly too early to pour a glass of it for me, so going with a little bourbon barreled goodness instead.

A fun little jam by these guys I had never heard before yesterday.

Happy Saturday, virtual bar brethren. Stay safe!

[IMG] I have learned a bunch about the beer world working at these 3 stores lately. Most of the great beers get spread around to all good accounts and if I am at that store they sell out in one 4 hour shift. This is a great beer and I am glad I put a 4 pack aside for myself. Slinging beer at 9:30 and I will be honest, I really enjoy this job. Cheers all.

So I went upstairs to try to get a little sleep before the kids get up this morning, and my daughter was already sitting next to my wife in bed with the TV remote in hand. When I mentioned that it was 6 AM, my wife said “oh shit”, took off her glasses, and went back to bed. I looked at my daughter and told her “let’s go downstairs to watch TV and let mommy sleep.”

Here is my reward for this sacrifice.

You bring up an interesting point. When beers say they are Bourbon barrel aged, are they really using whiskey that meets the criteria of bourbon? Or just any American whiskey barrel they can find? Never really thought about it but just watched a documentary on Bourbon and it got me think’n.

Good for you! Now if you'd just run five miles to get a beer, I'd really be impressed!:wink:

When I read GreenBay’s post, I thought I was happy with myself walking five feet to get a beer.

Good day BAs! Starting out to be a warm foggy morning. Today's New Breakfast Beer Found in the Back of the Reefer:

I'm with you - I'll walk five miles in prep for traveling, but I usually only run five feet to the beer reefer - desperate times require desperate measures.

Like one of the main characters in last night's Troma War on "The Last Drive-In" was wont to say - Airborne!

I know. Bourbon/whiskey seems like one of those weird thresholds one has to cross to “qualify”. We see bourbon barrel aged beers all the time, but when I asked @oach and another friend from Thursday Night Beer Club, none of us could name a “whiskey barrel aged beer”. The best our friend came up with for a suggestion was Jameson’s Irish Whiskey aged in barrels Revolution Brewing used. I told him I drank my bottle of that already.

Maybe my favorite beer store will still have a bottle of that, if I run over there today....

Interesting point. Many brewers seem to name the whiskey that donated it's barrels (Wild Turkey, etc) but others just say "bourbon barrel aged". What are they trying to hide? Another conspiracy courtesy of our lizard overlords???:thinking_face::thinking_face:

Bars are open in Wisconsin. I don't plan to drive for the rest of the weekend. I don't think it is a good idea to go to bars anytime soon, but I checked out the Facebook pages of some of my favorite local sports bars, and they are showing pictures of their patios set up and ready. It is going to a nice day, and I am eager to do something away from my house. I hope I can resist the temptation to run a few miles to a bar for a few beers, while having an appropriately social-distanced, yelling to the other side of the bar, conversation with local sports fans about Aaron Rodgers versus Jordan Love, or something similar.

As i was cleaning out some stuff in a hidey-hole at work, I found a can of Aslan Batch 15 dated 9/7/2018. it's past prime (really astringent on the finish) but the joozy hops are still dominant.

I politely second that emotion. Buying the beer, put it in the fridge, wait until it’s chilled enough then grab it, pour it and take a photo of it to finally upload it and paste it here is good enough work for me.

Anyway. I just got back from a (real) short 2km stroll and here’s my reward; Triple secret Des Moines. A French Tripel; not in the league of the Belgians we all know but pretty tasty nonetheless:

Have a good Saturday. Played some new games last night and called my mom and dad. Also had some McDonalds Mcdoubles and Spicy Mcchicken sandwiches around 2AM. I didn't eat anything all day lol.

Bearded Iris DDH Ever Clever. Fantastic NEDIPA. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, guava, citrus peel/zest, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine hops; with moderate wheat, white bread dough, light biscuit/toasted malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, minty, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy/silky/bready malts, some sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth/soft, minimal warming 8.5%, or lingering hop burn after the finish. Fantastic Simcoe, Mosaic, Motueka, Centennial profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized wheat/oat/malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Spot on stuff. Loved the hop profile as expected.
