Pared down the recommendations, no disrespect to those removed. Starting 2020 with 32 breweries in Central Oregon per thebrewsite.com, 22 in Bend, 6 in Redmond, 1 each in Prineville, Sisters, Sunriver, and Terrebonne.
Canceled our AirBNB for next weekend in Bend. First time in nine years we won’t be spending Memorial Day down there, but it’s for the best.
Looks like Deschutes County will be semi open by then. I will happily cross the path from filthy infected Marion ..
My surgeon and cardiologist said I’m still in the high risk category so I shouldn’t go anywhere and I don’t think Oregon would take too kindly of all our WA license plates rolling into town.
I would be curious as well. Is it worth driving up to Bend right now to check on the beer scene, or is everything pretty much closed up still except for pick-ups and delivery?
We’re in Phase II with lodging restrictions. GoodLife, Crux, BBC, Worthy, etc. are maximizing their large outdoor spaces, so a day trip would provide plenty of options. I’m the ultimate homebody these days so can’t comment first-hand.
I was in Bend/Sunriver over the 4th. It was definitely pretty quiet there for a holiday weekend. I don't recall any beer places that I wanted to go to that wasn't open. Many were only doing outside seating. Both Boneyard and Immersion didn't have much on draft, so that was a little disappointing. I still had a good time there though. And our dogs enjoyed staying in Sunriver where fireworks are banned. It's probably even more quiet there now since the City of Bend has requested tourists to stay away until at least September. https://www.opb.org/news/article/bend-oregon-tourism-order-coronavirus-covid-19/
Crux was pretty slammed when they first opened up the outside seating area, way more people than they expected. Honestly, I think even outside seating is a bad idea, but I remind myself every day that I can only control my own behavior.
Thanks @sharpski! Heading up in a couple weeks for mostly wilderness time. But will defintely be looking for some Pallet Jack fills, Wanderjack cans, and whatever FH stuff is out. Have WJ cans been sighted in Bend?
I never saw Wanderjack cans, and the last canning was long enough ago that I’m afraid you’ll have to make do with the alternatives.
Has anyone seen any FH available other than Pert Near? I was told Migration's Fresh Outta Portland get distro but haven't found any.
Here are the FH beers I've seen on shelves in the Portland area: Breakside Fresh Guy IPA Crux Pert Near Ex Novo Fresh Hop Eliot (2 versions: Centennial and Strata) HUB Fresh Hop Abominable Level Fresh-Hopped Oktöberfest Level Fresh-Hopped WCIPA Migration Fresh Outta Portland IPA Zoiglhaus Fresh Hop Zoigl-Kölsch Zoiglhaus Oktoberfresh Occidental's Fresh Hop Pilsner is out there too, but I still haven't found any at my usual haunts.
I'll keep an eye out for all of these, but my feeling is that Bend gets a smaller portion of these in distro. May be worth a trip when the season is in full swing!
