You didn’t quote a post but I’m almost positive you’re talking about Walking Stick.

I’ve felt the day care vibe every time I’ve been (if that’s where you’re talking about) and I don’t like it. The beers aren’t good enough to keep going back

I just bought a house in Garden Oaks and moved in last week. I’m happy Astral Brewing is very close. Is Astral on tap anywhere in town?

Yes, that is the place that I was referring to. When my wife and I go drink beers on Wakefield, it is an easy pass for us.

And welcome to the neighborhood. I also recommend adding Eureka Heights to your list of breweries to visit in this part of town.

I’ve been in Houston for a few years now, the past two in Midtown, and I’m in the Heights & GOOF a lot mainly bc of the beer/breweries. It’s good to live here now. Cheers

I have gotten one from the brewery and the rest out here in cypress at the more upscale HEB's.

I picked up the Sigma Loggerbier yesterday, but only tried it today. It's very good and true to style, I appreciate the recommendation.

RIP. That place was the absolute best during its heyday.... They had a winning formula--great beer and great food (best burgers in town, in my opinion) and they blew it. Such a shame.

Great food; I'll miss that. Beer selection was excellent but had steeply declined in recent years.

I have always had an up and down relationship with Petrol.

That being said, recently, Petrol changed their food supplier and kitchen staff not to long ago, around January, and the burgers went to shit. I mean, tiny, dry, burnt hockey pucks with no flavor, and it wasn't a one off issue. They are up there with D&T and Cottonwood as bars that took a huge sharp downward turn quickly over the last few years. Still sad to see them go.

Many of the "first generation" craft bars in the city really fell off/failed to keep up with the times. I'd put Hay Merchant on the list of bars in this category. Food has remained consistent but the beer selection is very 2015. I used to go there every week and now I go every 6 months or so...

I haven't been to Hay Merchant in years. Primarily because I'm never in the area anymore....and baby girl.

I'm honestly unsure if they will even re-open post pandemic... I hope they do. (And to be clear, haven't heard otherwise. But being closed throughout the pandemic with no public plan to re-open makes me worried). I have a LOT of fondness for that place.

Hay Merchant would be a tough loss. Mongoose vs Cobra has rebranded. Interested to see if they maintain their strong beer program.

Seems like our brewery game has stepped up and unfortunately our bar/restaurants geared to craft beer have taken a step back.

MVC is going to be called Red Dwarf, supposedly they will keep a lot, but not all of their tap wall. I love all day cafe, beer, cocktail, food concepts so I'll be looking forward to that.

Hay Merchant is doing curbside, and Shepard is using their kitchen for Take and Bake meals for HEB. The other Shepard restaurants are slowly opening up from what I hear, so pretty sure they will at some point.
