I have a question about Hottenroth. I love berliners but I found Hottenroth to be tasteless. I didn’t check the label, but I’m wondering if maybe I got an old bottle. Do the fruit-centric flavors in Hottenroth fade quickly? Cause I’d love to make that a staple if I can find better bottles of it.

Thanks for the tip; I will keep my eyes peeled for these. The reviews sounds good on both of them.

Just picked up one of these today for $7. Need to do that more often. The same place has 500 mL 4-packs of DAB which is typically my value go-to.

If I'm crushin' "value" beers it's New Glarus Moon Man.

Whatever is on sale plus Hamms 30 for $14 and High Life bottles are around $16 on sale.

Just saw Hop Devil for $19 a case and Prima Pils as well as Two Hearted 24x16 is still $35. Will be stocking up tomorrow.

    Enjoy

I haven't seen Hop Devil or any decent offerings from Victory in a while. I love Hop Ranch!

I've got a couple cases of Hottenroth still in my cellar (they were like $6.50 for members IIRC). HUGE fanboy of it. The sour mash wheat gives off some lemony notes, but that is about it IMHO.

Have you tried Cloud Walker? Thought it was pretty good, and again, I’m not even an IPA fan.

I may give it another shot. The mouthfeel was impeccable, but I just found no flavor to the bottle I had. At $7-8 bucks for a 750ml, I would love to make that a summer staple.

Yes! Forgot that one. Heading over to the store later. May see if they have any.

Certainly would not disagree with many mentioned already (Sierra, Bells, etc). To add to the list: Great Lakes, Sam Adams, New Belgium and maybe throw in an import like Bitburger. And my definition of 'value' is around $10 a 6pk.

Most of the Breweries mentioned have reasonably priced Stouts and Porters, Bells Kalamazoo has big flavor and body in a reasonably priced package.

For all of the OPs non-Stout needs I highly recommend Jack's Abby. They make outstanding Baltic Porters however they are expensive. They do have an excellent line of true-to-style German Lagers, reasonably priced and well flavored.

    Cheers.

Lagunitas. Little Sumpin Sumpin is a old favorite, but needs to be fresh, and that can be a challenge.

    Cigar City - Guyabera
    Lagunitas - Maximus
    Guinness - Extra Stout
Sierra Nevada - Pale Ale and Hop Bullet
    DuPont - Saison Dupont
    Geary's - Summer Ale

These are definitely some of my favourite "bang-for-your-buck" beers. I'm also no stranger to occasionally perusing the discount wall either. When it comes to lagers/pilsners though, I find I'm better off just paying the premium for the legitimate craft stuff.

The German imports can be pretty cost efficient as well.

I recently discovered Grevensteiner Original. $8 for 4 pints of the best beer I have ever had. The only bad thing is it kind of killed off all the other lagers I like.

The ultimate value beer for me has always been Hamm's. $4.49 for 6 pints.

Since you are in New Jersey, Flying Fish their entire core lineup are all $9 sixers in my area. And Yards are $8 sixers in my are. Burlington county.

My local grocery usually has (as previously mentioned) FBS and Dirty Bastard in stock for less than $10. They also carry a nice selection of more local/regional craft like Blackberry Farm (Belgian inspired) and Yee-Haw (German inspired) all for around the $10-$11 dollar mark. My local bottle shop usually stays stocked with seasonal Sierra Nevada & Lagunitas releases i.e. Narwhal, Big Foot, Willetized, Hairy Eyeball etc...as well as always having Old Rasputin and La Chauffee Blonde ($10 per 4 pack for each) which is an awesome deal for traditional Stout and Belgian respectively.

Firestone Union Jack at $7.99 a six pack and fresh in my neck of the woods.

As a General rule most Firestone Walker, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, Oskar Blues all have good beer options at sub $10 six pack.
