I mean, if they kept like 80% of the usual taplist and just swapped in a few draft cocktails and a craft Mexican beer or two (if they exist) I don’t think anyone would complain. I’ve taken dates there and girls love the cocktails and sour beers of Deep Ellum. Don’t mess with it or over curate to the menu

I also don't get this need to have Mexican beers at a Mexican restaurant. I don't think you can really argue that Mexican beers pair the best with Mexican food. I can understand from the perspective of ambiance. Though this is a Tex-Mex restaurant with a heavy accent on the Tex side.

Anyhow, I could see if they had unique Mexican beers (or even Texas beers) that brought something to the table but just throwing Tecate and Pacifico on the menu is a cop out. I'd love to see a Mexican restaurant actually pay attention to their beer list.

I take it you haven't been to the Lone Star in Cambridge. The beer list there is significantly larger than the one in Allston and more akin to what Deep Ellum's list was.

They could even start with something simple and easy to get like Sierraveza.

It would be really killer if they could get Texas beers...like Live Oak.

This is good to know. I'm in Somerville. The less I have to go to Allston the better. Way easier to get to Cambridge.

Deep Ellum was where I took my wife on our first date about a decade ago (I lived in the complex adjacent to it, Grasshopper, etc.). That was also the night of my first proper dive into craft beer as my better half was a fan and held my hand through an Allagash White and some lambic. Can't count the number of times we ended a night on the back deck after that first visit. We were meaning to go back and grab a nostalgic beer + bite this year but looks like we missed our chance.

I'll raise a glass to it's great taplist, poutine, and somehow charming lack of personal space on busy nights. Cheers, Deep Ellum.

Well, it’s not like you can’t go back for a nostalgic beer and bite on that back deck again...just instead of poutine you’ll be eating tacos.

Duck and fried potato taco with queso, cotija, or some other kinda of cheese? Give me that and a german lager to cut through the fattiness on a cool fall day.

I mean can we all agree that if they keep a similar list, unique German lagers at least, that this really isn't a big deal?

Same space, still great food, great cocktails, and a similar draft list is cool with me.

I'll just call it Lone Ellum or Deep Star...

...also, Lu Lu's is still across the street.

I may be wrong, but I think Lu Lu’s might be on the market? Or maybe was? I was there once in the fall and they were doing a tour with guys that were clearly investors/restaurateurs. Overhead part of their conversation on the way to the basement, one guy definitely had a sales sheet looking thing in his hand. But ancient history now I guess.
