The thread on breweries you no longer enjoy or avoid got me thinking of breweries and beer I do enjoy but can no longer have access to.

Any breweries the fellow BAs miss because of closings, loss of distro, relocation, even recipe change etc....

    Cheers.

I for one miss the old recipe of Victory's Prima Pils.

Was my favorite beer, now I do not even buy it any longer since the recipe tweak.

I know its not exactly gone, technically, but the old recipe is so I think that counts! Haha

    Me too!

In the past couple of months I purchased a lot of crowlers of Victory beer since they were pricing them to sell (i.e., $3.33 a crowler) and I wanted to support a local brewery. Over a period of 4-5 weeks I must have purchased about 10 crowlers of their latest version of Braumeister Pils (plus many crowlers of other brands) which featured Spalt hops. That beer was really good! I discussed this beer in a New Beer Sunday post. I also purchased one crowler of Prima Pils as a "let's try it again" thing. For me it was a disappointment - this beer is lacking for my palate.

I really wish they would can or bottle Braumeister Pils instead.

    Cheers!

Fat Head's pulled out of Florida a while ago. So no more Head Hunter for me...at least not locally. I don't know why they distributed here in the first place, but I'm bummed about that one.

This subject has come up a few times before. I always have the same answer. The late great Heavyweight Brewing from Ocean NJ closed in 2006. A brewery about 6/7 years ahead of it’s time.

    I’ll post mine as well.

I truly miss Saint Benjamin Brewing from the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. They permanently closed because the building got bought out by new owners who didn’t like the idea of a brewery being there apparently. So as far as I know they took the loss and permanently closed. It was helping pick up the area in a “bad” neighborhood (depends who you ask) and went from the cities smallest to a respectable size with distro in PA, NJ and DE.

Specifically I miss the Pilsner, the India Cream Ale and their Wit or Wit Out. A classic wit. And a play on words for a cheesesteak (with or without) onions is, by some, ordered this way. So.....you know....... My very outspoken love for the city of Philadelphia.

I’ve not had prima in so long. When did this change occur? The nearest beer store has prima with the old green labels (presumed very old) and the new label rebranding. Did this occur with the rebrand of artwork?

Have you ever visited Philly to drink the beers that Tom Baker brews? Either Earth - Bread + Brewery or his other brewery at Bar Hygge - Brewery Techne.

    Cheers!

I imagine you'll see a lot of this come from Massachusetts folks, but I'll chime in first with Trillium. I mean, like a lot of their early line up. Fort Point. The Street series. Not the same. Dry Stack (discontinued). Beyond the changes in beer, it's been sad to see the endless merry go round of employees come and go. Beyond good beer, I think one of the things that differentiates local craft breweries is the familiarity you have with the people. That is also something I miss about Trillium.

Over a year ago. I discussed the reformulated Prima Pils on a May 12, 2019 NBS thread.

    Cheers!

No, I’m well past the age of being willing to drive 2 hours to try beers. That and the fact that there a few small breweries around now that brew quality big beers now. Tom and Heavyweight stuck out like a sore thumb 20 years ago. Like I said they were ahead of their time.

Me too, I really enjoyed Procim Pilsner.
And 'ironically' (is that the right word?) a new brewery Human Robot opened in that location. Have you had the beers from Human Robot yet?

Perhaps in the future you will be in Philly for other reasons and you might find time to drink one (or two) of Tom Baker's beers.

    Cheers!

I used to be able to get Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor occasionally, but not any longer. Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout was once available to me, but that doesn't show up here anymore either. Okocim Porter has been retired and Garrison Imperial IPA no longer seems to make it into my market. That's a few off the top of my head.

I miss all of the German imports that I used to enjoy in the 70s.

I miss Bridgeport specifically for their IPA.

Steady Habit when Jon Peterson was the head brewer. I will sing his praises to eternity. There was a time that I thought his beers were better than Trillium. Shout out to the Haddam community that was there in the beginning to see the master at work. Oh, what could have been.
