This thread is only about the appearance of beer. I think appearance is underrated—before you even smell the beer, let alone taste it, you look at it. The color. The clarity (or lack thereof). The head and the lacing. The carbonation level.

While I'll concede you can have an unattractive beer that pleasantly surprises you with the taste, I'd also argue that the chances of a truly beautiful beer tasting awful are negligible. There's something about how a beer looks—and the expectations that sets up in your brain.

Movies have certainly done their part in celebrating beer, and its role in binding people together. From that wonderful scene in The Shawshank Redemption ...

To a band of hobbits joyfully enjoying some ale at the Prancing Pony ("It comes in pints?")...

... what a beer looks like is important.

    For me, it's probably Orval

    Or Duvel

Or maybe a big dark stout with that beautiful reddish-brown head

Though something can be said for a really nicely built IPA

Or any number of other styles (though I admit I have a weakness for anything Belgian)

So what about you? What beer, in your opinion, wins the beauty pageant? And why? Cheers!

Those prisoners and hobbits aren't looking at their beers though.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and often times for me what I have been bolding lately is often what is most vividly beautiful for me. Lately that has been my homebrewed Classic American Pilsner.

What I see upon initial pour:

And what I see after a few big gulps:

    Cheers to beautiful beer!

P.S. A fair bit of condensation on that glass but that just adds to the allure!

The answer is Duvel. Everyone else is fighting it out for second place.

I will tag him, hoping that he can recall the post. If you ever saw the OG Alpine Nelson pour from @chipawayboy in the Simon Pearce tulip, you would kneel. That is beauty personified.

Those are great and some of my favorites. La Chouffe, Achel Extra, Tripel Karmeleit, Kulmbacher EKU Pils, Foothills Jade, and any Weihenstephan brew. Licking ones chops because of appearance is a great piece of beer enjoyment.

How did they get the beer out without removing the cap?

Love all your selections. I’ll offer up another brewery whose beers always strike me as beautiful: Maine Beer Company.

Every beer of theirs that I’ve had (roughly a dozen) has struck me on its appearance. This isn’t my pic, but it’s an appropriate representation.

I do love the Belgians, but something about a hefeweizen in proper weizen glassware says, drink me.

Any beer that pours a nice head and leaves behind some nice lacing around the glass as you drink it is a beautiful thing!!! I hate pouring a beer and the head just fizzles away like a soda, unless it's a BA stout/barleywine.

I don't have a specific example, to me dark Beers with red hues look beautiful in front of the fire pit.
    Cheers.

Ha! I didn’t even catch that. Perhaps it’s the on deck beer.

I think it’s just marketing. But that Ayinger cap is one of my all-time favorites.

Yes, those photos are indeed enticing but he is the KING of Photoshop (or some other photo enhancing software).

Sorta like how Playboy had an master airbrush artist back in the day.

    Cheers!

Pretty much any Belgian (or Belgian inspired) beer with a big billowy head does it for me. It can be hazy or clear, but that foam just screams dry, crisp and delicious.

A couple that came to mind right away were Weihenstephaner Kristallweissbier and Ten Fidy. I couldn't find my old photos of these, but I did find this: Stone Ruin Ten. It has to rank right up there with the most beautiful beers I've seen. (Pretty damn tasty, too, as I recall. :yum:)
