Surly Space Race DNEIPA, 9.5%. Pours clearish pale yellow with a two finger white head that left little lacing. Nose is very light tropical fruit, pepper, and citrus. Taste follows, plus some pine and grass, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent. I wouldn't have classified this a NEIPA/DNEIPA, seems more like a DIPA.

Wow...my wife went out to pick something up, and the kids decided to ride in the car with her. I think this is the first time I've been home alone since March. WTF.

Anyway, for the last 25 years I've been remembering a delicious treat a friend-family made out camping: Beer cabbage. My memory of his recipe was a cabbage wrapped in tin foil filled with cheap beer and brown sugar, stuck in the campfire; later, remove and eat. I tried this once with moderate failure. I'm trying again today, with intensity -- using Dark Star, adding vanilla and bourbon and bacon fat.

No campfire, so it's on the grill.

Drinking Mitten brewing's "Peanuts and Cracker Jack" robust porter while I wait for it to cook -- it's not fantastic, it's not bad. The Yamazaki 12 however is still awesome.

[edit] And I keep forgetting...this is what I was listening to:

I'm really glad that I decided to open my 2019 bottle of this after I was rather disappointed by the 2018 vintage. This really is vastly superior and I would highly recommend drinking this as fresh as possible, which could probably be said of all fruited Lambic.

A fine and hazy peach colored body crowned with a fairly thick and sculpted, soapy head. Nice smell combination of biscuit and tangerine and orange juice. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; citrus rind and bisquick dough; white grapefruit; acidic and bitter. Heavy body; creamy yet tart; nice dextrin-induced body; soft and dry.

Per the brewery's notes on the beer, the wheat and oats used certainly make themselves known in the taste and mouthfeel. Yet the beer still has plenty of juicy citrus presence as well. This is a well-executed hazy IPA and a joy to drink.

...listening to another of my compilation CDs from years ago...a few of the tunes (fyi - the Hackensaw Boys cut on the CD was actually a studio cut):

    Howdy, fellow beer-pirates.
Dipped into a new one today, X-post to NBS for the full-on review, but otherwise for TL;DR - it's great. As expected. DOVETAIL MAIBOCK. 5.5.20 canning. 6.3%
    Cheers!

I'll have to try the whisky. I have Nikka Coffee Grain Still whisky and love its smoothness and subtlety regarding taste...

Don't think I've tried that one. My company is a subsidiary of a Japanese company; on my previous project I travel to Tokyo at least twice a year, and had lots of opportunities to get stuff like this.

Yamazaki 12 is great. I used to get it for about $40 after tax in Japan. I once bought a bottle of Yamazaki 18 as a gift for a friend for about $250 (most expensive whisky I ever bought). It's definitely better...but not $200 better.

Eventually I'm sure I'll be back to Japan. I'll have to get some of that Nikka Coffey Grain and give it a shot.

I showed remarkable restraint with my first quote, I normally would have said take your laws and shine them up real pretty and then shove them up your ass. Cheers my friend.
