I’m not trying to get political at all here, but there shouldn’t be any reason breweries and drink only bars can’t have same patio restrictions as restaurants.

Can ya’ll imagine if metropolitan or Dovetail went under? I feel the same rules should be across the board between restaurants and breweries/bars in Chicago. This isn’t about reopening or not, this is about even rules across the board. Mayor Lightfoot’s reasoning is very poor imo.

I think the good people of Chicago are focused on righting a more important double standard right now.

I think theres plenty opportunity to look at more than one issue, regardless of the importance of A vs B.

Yea, I don't quite get the reasoning there - if they can follow the same outdoor guidelines, then whats the problem?
    that's really concerning.

The thought process is that breweries make beer and ship it out. It can be sold anywhere. Restaurants can't make 1000 burgers and send them to stores. So restaurants opened first.

And bars? I understand trying to limit the spread, and that with a few drinks people can lose inhibitions per Lightfoot in the article, however it just seems overall ridiculous to me when right next door I’m seeing PACKED restaurant patios.

Do you often receive deliveries of tap beer?

That’s the point of my response. A restaurant can open because it can’t ship food outside delivery, yet a bar doesn’t ship out beer. Why can’t they be open with the same guidelines? I think you make it even across the board between restaurants, bars, and breweries.

Just my thoughts, appreciate the feedback!

Sadly looks like Illinois will be the very last state to open the inside of restaurants and breweries to 50% capacity.

Since when have laws surrounding alcohol made sense?

Or will it be sad if the other states have their cases spike back up? I’m not saying it will or won’t, but people are making decisions based on what they think is best based on the data they have. And those people are very likely getting better data than regular citizens. I’m fairly certain they aren’t trying to make businesses fail, but trying to err in the side of caution. But, that’s just how I view things and certainly understand those involved in the industry would have a different view, although that is obviously biased.

On another note, I saw Lucky Dorr is opening. I didn’t think they had food, so why are they allowed to open if they don’t have food?

Looks like Lucky Dorr put 3 items on the menu, maybe to get around this?

Smart folks. Seems like it would be easy to throw some pretzels together or something but I’m sure I’m oversimplifying it. I know Dovetail sells pretzels and sausages but I wonder if they don’t count since they get them from Paulina Market? Can’t we all whip up some beer cheese dip or honey mustard dip for them to “make” on site so they can reopen with their own food?!

Looking on yelp it looks like they've always had some snack food options. I would imagine if food is being served there is a whole other process to go through for permits and inspections that would prevent bars from adding food on a whim.

That’s the thing...Dovetail has always had those snack food options as well. I’m sure there’s some technical difference I’m not aware of, but they seem very similar to me. (And truthfully, a pretzel and a few sausages from Dovetail qualifies as a pretty good eating experience for me).

A lot of Chicago bar owners love to skirt restrictions. I've heard reports of bars with "restaurant" liquor licenses of manipulating their food sales numbers to meet the requirements of their liquor licenses, and many bars routinely make a mockery of fire code capacity limits. I don't think it's the taprooms that Lightfoot is worried about, it's unscrupulous bar owners packing people in on their patios like they're Murphy's Bleaches after a Cubs game.
