No work Wednesday. Dentist appointment right in the middle of the day. Hey, at least it’s a day off!

You’re right, @SawDog505, this IS a breakfast beer!

Happy Hump Day BAs! The dogs have been walked and fed...the morning chores, including laundry in a very hot garage, done...coffee time! Founders’ “Underground Mountain Brown”:

A fantastic imperial bourbon barrel aged brown ale with Sumatra coffee. Bottled 8/17/19 and still strong with the coffee nose/tongue. Bourbon and barrel notes right behind. Medium light body with a creamy smooth feel. At $16.99 a 4/pk, it’s $5 to $10 cheaper than KBS, depending on the source. Just enough warming booze (11.9% abv) to kick start my day. Competition for my 2 other favorite breakfast beers?

It’s already 86 degrees and 78% humidity outside. Bright sunny hot day until the afternoon rain rolls in...until then, I’m indoors. Have a wonderful Wednesday and Cheers!

An appropriate beer after mowing the lawn. 10am and it's already 84* with a heat index of 93. I'm sure DoctorZombies will tell this NY'er that he knows nothing about heat and humidity!

I have drank way to much sweet beer this past year so I am trying to clear stuff like this out of the fridge. Palate fatigue is kicking in for sure

On to my second cup of coffee this glorious, muggy morning - “Peche Mortel” from Brasserie Dieu du Ciel, Quebec, Canada:

Bottled June 3, 2017. This coffee stout has been my gold standard for breakfast beers for years...let’s see how it compares to my prior indulgence this morning...Wow! The roast coffee is stronger in the nose/on tongue even after 3 years in the bottle, sitting on an unrefridgerated shelf in a Florida liquor store! Not as complex, and no bourbon...less alcohol (9.5% vs. 11.9%), and less volume (11.2 oz vs. 12.0 oz) for slightly more money per bottle ($4.99 vs. $4.25)...I will continue to buy and enjoy this hard to find (here in SWFL) treat, but I have to admit, the nod goes to Founders on this one. Cheers morning brethren of the Now!

Last “cup o joe” for the morning - “Founders Breakfast Stout”:

Bottled 3/20/20. Lots of roast coffee and dark bittersweet chocolate. Bitter roast finish. Long char linger. I like! But how does my third most beloved breakfast beer hold up to the two prior beers? Well, it’s definitely the cheapest at $9.99/4 pk, or $2.50/bottle, and it has the least alcohol at 8.3%. Definitely the most bitter at 60 IBUs. So the winner, you ask?...well, it’s Founders! ... ok, ok, if you like strong coffee flavor in your breakfast beer, Peche Mortel can’t be beat, and unlike many offerings, holds up magnificently for years. For price, FBS is hands down the winner at almost 1/2 of what it costs to drink my other two recommendations...but, as far as flavor and bang for the buck, my new coffee beer winner is Founders’ Underground Mountain Brown...sure hope I can grab another 4pk before it’s gone... Cheers!

Peche Mortel is one of those beers that just make me smile on the first sip, it’s just so good. Sadly I haven’t seen it in y parts in quite a while.

Have a good Wednesday. I was out last night helping my friend rewire his A/C and other stuff since he just moved in. I got a bunch of Wendy's on the way home including a double baconator and it was amazing. Long time since I had one of those.

Founders 4 Giants. Amazing DIPA. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, honeydew, watermelon, red apple, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, toasted biscuit, light caramel/nutty malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness. on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 9.2%. They claim 7 hop varieties on the website, I already knew what to expect going in. Feels like mostly Centennial, Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe, and El Dorado. Very vibrant, juicy, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized bready Munich malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Another top tier classic tasting DIPA.
