    Fair enough.

For me, if I ever come into some mad money I'd love to fill some coolers with each of them to spend some lazy summer days. They each have an austere elegance that I find very appealing.

Related controversial opinion: the spices in Allagash White are too loud.

There are definitely beers that trying to classify further than "Lager" would be a disservice to the styles. Even beers that I really like. If we have a pale lager without the malt flavor for a Helles, without the Hop character for a Pilsner, and it isn't an AAL then what really is it?
The best option really is just calling it a Lager. You could add the Pale adjective to it but that's really unnecessary.

I agree. So many lauded breweries are just purveyors of IPA, Sour, and Stout beers. I find them so cliche and boring. Nowadays they are a dime a dozen.

Yeah I like flavorings when they play with the malt, hop, or yeast flavors and come up as something new. But I feel they're best when they are used with subtlety.

I made an English style beer using dried shiitakes. When I looked for them in the beer I could identify them but otherwise it tasted more like a Belhaven Scottish Ale than my other versions of English ales.

If it was sold as a beer with mushrooms it would get tanked ratings because people would be complaining the mushroom flavor wasn't strong enough... But my goal was to make a great beer, NOT to make mushroom soup.

The definition of experienced and veteran IS the passage of time. You learn things doing them repeatedly over the passage of time even if it's only how to get drunk most effectively.

The words don't mean skill or capability just that they have done it.

You may be the one mistaken here by thinking that the words have more meaning than they do.

Well, if the American market is bearing it ... Here, there are still good gueuzes in the eu7-8 range for 750ml, less for Girardin, but the names more often mentioned here are 1-2 more, and we're talking brewery prices. You'd struggle to pay more than 5 for 750ml of saison.

What are your thoughts on the St Bernardus Extra 4? That's the only brand (available in the U.S. anyways) that I haven't tried.
To me, the 6, 8 and 12 as well as the tripel are world class. The wit at its price point isn't something I will likely re-visit.

I'll call an ambulance, for you are surely injured, man. ABT 12 is a world-class beverage and my favorite quad. (Westvleteren might be a smidge better, but is hard to get and very pricey.). But I have a feeling you're just provoking me for sport.

Same thing for me with the Extra 4- it's not a regular thing for me due to the price point.

As a beer I love it and would love to see more beers like it; very tightly knit, lower gravity, grisette-like, subtle and highly drinkable.

My controversial opinion is I don't like when people bring back my original thread (just kidding)

This one is less about beer and more about bars. Untappds BEST feature is not the rating, its the ability to go to a verified place and see the date they added beer to their taps. Lately I've seen verified places being able to change the date on when a beer was added to the venue. That used to be super valuable.

Yup, the ‘new’ Stroh’s Bohemian-Style Pilsner is brewed at Brew Detroit brewery:

“In August 2016, a brewery in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood called Brew Detroit began brewing batches of Stroh's Bohemian-Style Pilsner beer.”

I have had the pleasure of drinking a 2017 version and a 2018 version and I have discussed these beers in New Beer Sunday threads:

“I enjoyed drinking the 2018 version of Stroh’s Bohemian Pilsner but I have a preference for how this beer was brewed last year (2017). I thought that version had a more notable malty flavor which provided an improved balance to the beer. I am guessing that the brewers decided to tweak the grain bill?”

I'm definitely not doing that. I'm just a guy with opinions riding in an ambulance (and I adore some Belgian beer). I went into more detail in post #198.

You are in fact correct. What I should have stated is that it is nothing to be revered, nor does it come with any sort of honor. It the culmination of age and drinking beer...which describes just about any man.

I'm back... f**k flights! They can still go to hell. Impeding progress of me getting beer.

EDIT: And I still don't wanna see kids flailing around in breweries.

Beer style names are the absolute worst naming conventions of any naming conventions I have yet to come across. They are confusing, contradictory, inexact, have no commonality, and totally fail in being a guide for consumers. Beer style naming conventions have the rare distinction of being things that get progressively worse in all aspects every time an attempt is made to "fix" them.

That’s definitely a more controversial (and wrong) opinion than mine

Though I think there is some common ground: we both agree Rupert likes Mich Ultra.

Big fan of Extra 4 here, I drank a ton of it between 2018/19 and was maybe my favorite beer during that period. It is possibly my favorite from St. Bernardus and wtf one of my favorite beers all around.

Anecdotally my local has two fixed taps of St. Bernardus, but Pater 6 and Tripel become a bit boring every time (not near the top at their game, imo), and the better beers in Prior 8 and Abt 12 come out too cold from the keg, at a higher price...so what´s the point of having them at the bar, if not just ocassionally? That said I lobbied hard for months to get draught Extra 4 at this place, which is more difficult to get apparently, and became a bit of an obsession.

Finally one day during last summer I saw the straw blue label on a tap, and proudly got into the place to enjoy the product of my perseverance. The draught version was pretty great, and probably drank most of the keg by myself during those days, but unexpectedly had somehow lost the floral exuberance, satisfying bitterness, natural fizziness and impossibly great looks of the bottle-conditioned one. It felt a bit more average and uncharacteristic, almost like a cold English bitter (which is not necessarily bad, but not what I was expecting). So one of those beers that are probably better from the bottle, at least after that particular experience.

In short, I share your 'love' for enkels (or whatever you want to call them), and especially for this one. Also, it´s pretty rare that I disagree with @zid at anything beer related but well, I understand Extra 4 just didn´t click with him. It certainly did with me (in a pretty big way) in the past.

Coincidentally enough, I´ll share some renewed thoughts on Extra 4 with you soon.
