Have a good Sunday. Was up all night yet again. Played some PGA tour 2019 and found out I need to work on putting, and then I’ll be good at the game. Also restarted Half Life 2: Episode 1. I had an old save from 2008 on my hard drive(good backup procedures ), but always nice to start something fresh if it’s been that long. Mostly just a puzzle/gravity gun game at the moment. No guns for me yet. Still have yet to complete any Half Life game, as I am stuck on certain parts in 1 and 2.

Prairie Stuf't. Fantastic Pastry stout. Solid head retention, minimal lacing/floaties on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, toffee, fudge, cookies, brownie batter, nuts, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of bourbon, oak, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Mild booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Very mild herbal, grassy, roast, charred bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; very creamy/silky/velvety/bready malts; light slickness, sticky, chalky, and tannins in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness; no cloying/acrid/astringency. Dangerously smooth/soft sipping. Mild increasing warmth of 14.8%, with minimal lingering booze after the finish. Fantastic balance of super rich malts, vanilla, Oreo, and cocoa nib flavors; with light earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Not a ton of barrel, but solid. Feels like a middle of the road Dawgs beer, with less barrel character. Certainly worth picking up again. 4.25

Just had the worst feeling-I woke up on the basement futon and thought I had two and a half hours until work.

Then I remembered it was Sunday and I have the day off. Good enough reason to drink right there!

Mentioned it a couple times in LNBA yesterday-the John Prine tribute video on YouTube was amazing. Looks like it’s still available. It’s worth watching.

I stayed up late watching Star Wars movies, yet got up as usual before dawn this morning...my chores are done, so revisiting a beer I had fresh 2 years ago - CW’s Brewer’s Reserve Rum Barrel Coconut Porter (2018):



Still smells like a piña colada and tastes like a sweet rum and coke. The coconut has faded a bit, but the rum remains front and center. I wasn’t impressed when I tried this beer in March of ‘18, and my take away hasn’t changed - the rum overpowers the whole...good thing I like rum. Cheers and have a safe Sunday y’all!

No description on site but found something in Untappd,

“ Synergy is a SMaSH pale ale made with 2 row barley and Idaho Gem. We used this hop with others before, but created Synergy to see how Gem transformed on its own. This is an easy drinking pale with notes of fruit candy and grapefruit. “

On tap poured into a pint glass

Thin white foam layer , some lacings over a translucent golden / orange liquid

Aroma is grapefruit

Taste is grapefruit rind , grapefruit

Mouthfeel is bitter

Nice beer

 

Good morning and it is a cool, crisp, late Spring morning in the NYC metro area. Starting the day right with a cool, crisp Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen. Really hit the spot.

Watched the Eagles' "Live from Melbourne" concert video from 2005 last night. A must see for any Eagles fan. They are/were any amazing group of artists (the loss of Glenn Frey is still enormous):

Homes Metaform Raspberry, holy hell this beer is amazing

 

So I thought I’d do a little experiment this morning, and drink another rum barrel aged beer and compare notes - Prairie’s “Pirate BOMB”:



Bottled 7/22/19. Strong aroma of rum, but there is chocolate and chillies alongside. Tons of heat from the 15% abv and the peppers. Minimal coffee as well as vanilla bean, but the chocolate and peppers hold their own with the barrel booze presence; overall well balanced and not a one trick (rum) pony. Perhaps an unfair follow up to this morning’s imperial (12.2%) porter, but I think rum (like tequila) presents challenges as it is a rather sharp spirit and can be aggressive on the palate in beer. Prairie has this stout dialed in and drinking fine - onward science!
