My brother and I were once lamenting the lack of stout-availability come summertime which leads us to start poking fun at any beer served with an orange slice. Next thing you know, we're homebrewing a 7.5% orange chocolate "summer stout." It was awesome.

While some of these newer pastry stouts are a little too out of balance for me, some are pretty decent and I'm expecting it may lead to some more summer releases. Personally, I'll sip a straight-up BA 12 percenter Russian Imperial on a 104 degree day with a smile on my face. But I'll take what I can get.

What and where are some of the killer stouts you're all expecting to see this summer?

I drink dark beers year round very often. I drink a lot of milk stouts. River Horse Oatmeal Milk Stout, Lancaster Milk Stout. I drink left hand nitro all the time but prefer the original non nitro. I can find Firestone’s Merlin sometimes. Guinness too. I love Decadents pastry stouts but honestly they can be inconsistent and you may end up purchasing an infection that explodes sour.

Yuengling Porter may be a consistent habit for me right now that I know where to find it

Other than pilsners, I'm pretty seasonal with my beers. Porters & stouts are cold weather beers for me; so that would mean October to May around here .

Just grabbed a sixer of sierra Nevada porter yesterday. Porter is my summer stout. SN stout is a great summer stout as well though

Both are solid, and basically my lifeblood when I'm hitching through Chico. And Narwhal, of course.

I'd be interested in more summer style stouts. A couple interesting ones I can think of that I had in the past and really enjoyed, as unusual as they are, a couple stouts with pineapple in them. OFYMD from Evil Twin & Westbrook, and Pineapple Express from To Øl. You're In The Jungle Baby from Evil Twin & Jackie O's was pretty interesting too I thought. I've had a stout with orange peel that was really good too, and some others I just can't remember all the names right now. Any dark beer with atypical fruit in it I'm interested. You usually see cherries or raspberries, dark fruits etc but I'd be interested to try more stouts with tropical fruit like mango or pineapple. There are some coconut stouts available too. Any porter or stout, maybe on the lighter side midst day is fine with me during the summer. I'm sure I'll even be drinking some high abv barrel aged stouts as well.

If anyone came out with a "Hazy Tropical Coffee Stout" they'd crush it. Keep it under 8% using an already fruit-forward coffee complimented with citra hops and you're in.

I don't stout as often in the summer as I do in the other months. But when I do:
I like Guinness Extra stout or Foreign extra stout for summer time. Mackeson XXX will also hit the spot. Stone's Woot Stout is usually released ~early July, I believe.

I try very hard to integrate more non IPAs into my cellar these days. Like to keep it 50-50. stouts, strong Belgians, browns... anything to break up the IPA monotony.

I’ll be certainly crushing Zonker all summer long and I couldn’t be happier about it

If still around Ballast Point the Commodore is very light per style and I believe 5.5% ABV. My memory tells me it was great on summer nights.

Stouts are pretty much done for me now until about October and unless you have some in the cellar-which I do-they are virtually impossible to buy at this time of year where I live. The stout volume will be replaced by Pale Ales and IPA’s. It’s a heat thing. Stouts just don’t cut it for me after a couple hours of yard work or a long bike ride when it’s 35 degrees Celsius.

I don't drink stouts as often in the summer as I do in the winter, but I still do here and there. I've been craving them these past couple of days, actually...

It actually occurred to me earlier today that stouts that hit that "iced coffee" or "mocha" vibe would make for great summer stouts. A sweet coffee milk stout or something would taste pretty great even in hot weather.

    No
Snake River also brews Fitzy's Stout, which is also a dry Stout, but I've only ever seen it on draught. (Currently at our Old Chicago)
It's a little sweet for the style but it's good.

Yes, and 95 American degrees is too hot for stout for this old dog. Next lesson will involve converting kilometres to miles. Cheers.
