I boil mine in beer for 8 minutes with butter and onions. I was under the impression this was Wisconsin tradition, however @GreenBayBA has led me to believe otherwise.

Somewhat traditional -- but NO BOILING! Low and slow, man -- nice simmer.

My mom always would soak them overnight in beer then cook them in a pan with butter and onions. Other times we would soak in beer and direct to BBQ. Now I just roll with package to grill but after all this talk I have to do it some other ways.

You’re gonna be appalled by what greenbayBA brings to the table.:astonished:

I mostly agree with you. You ever had Utepils Receptional by any chance? It is only available here, unless via trade of course.

I probably mention Utepils on here too often, but their examples of Hefeweizen, Kolsch, Altbier, Festbier, and Tmave (Czech Dark Lager) are among the best I have ever had by US Craft brewers.

No, but I'd love to try them. I've always liked Summit and Schell beers -- a few of them really hitting the mark, but I still haven't found an American brewery matching a good German brewery -- maybe Urban Chestnut -- for well-made lagers.

Fresh, or pre-cooked brats? For the last 10 years or so I've been using nothing but fresh brats, myself. Had a few pre-cooked-to-grill examples at picnincs and cookouts, but fresh are my go-to.
Is he really from Green Bay?

I've found some really well-made fresh brats from small grocers locally -- they go direct to grill and turn out very nice.

My local butcher has around 150 different brats styles/flavors in house, fresh made then frozen (But days old so I still feel fresh). I have been buying them and direct BBQ and man they are delicious. I feel that fresh is the best, you just cannot beat the texture and flavors, lol now I am crazing a brat and beer.

I understand, and agree with your definition of "fresh," but I'm also talking about non-pre-cooked -- as many packaged brats can be.

I have a local butcher who also makes fresh brats and sells the majority un-frozen, but if you get there late and have to buy frozen they aren't as good.

Oh, excuse me, I was looking for beer advocate. Seems I got hold of brat advocate. Sorry

IMO, Utepils is the best German style brewery I have had in the US. They have a few American and Belgian beers, but they are like 75% German and Czech. I mean, they aren't as good as Weihenstephaner or Ayinger, but maybe Paulaner, Hofbrau or Hacker Pschorr. But those are all Bavarian brewers and Utepils has more of a mix - Czech Pils, Kolsch, Altbier, Hefeweizen, Kristalweizen, Dunkelweizen, Festbier, Helles, Tmave, Maibock, Kellerbier, Winter Red Lager

Few things advocate for beer as well as a proper brat!

And for the record, I was raised on butter and onion browned in a pan, add beer and brats, simmer for 15-20 minutes, possibly finish on a grill if that's going on but not necessity

Glad Founder's decided to share this with other parts of the country. I'm not even thinking about Oktoberfest biers yet because we've barely scratched the surface of Summer.

Forgot about Solid Gold. On first I was keen to like it, as I do enjoy straight forward American lagers in some situations, but after making my way through a 15-pack, I concluded that I would not buy it again. I'd rather a Narragansett. But yes, PC Pils, which I believe has been renamed to simply Pilsner, was decent, but not what anyone would call a Pils.

Anyone, I look forward to being wrong about this beer

Only if you pour it over fries. Or drink it. ;-)
