And I'm not buying your explanation that they just called it a scotch ale because people in Wyoming don't know what a barleywine is. (I should note that I am REALLY looking forward to drinking it).

No it’s the spot on definition as to why. Scotch ales are huge in this region. I know the brewer, it’s an English strong ale.
