What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2813

Have a good Friday. Had another late nap yesterday so been up all night as usual. I bought more games last night: Duke Nukem Forever and 3D remastered; Stellaris, and Alien: Isolation. Still less than a week left of the sale, still sure I can find more stuff to get. Friends have been suggesting things as well. I played Duke Nukem 3D and Sega Bass Fishing for most of the night. Steam chatting with one of my friends, who also has bad sleeping habits as I do.

Founders KBS. 2018 is tasting amazing. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roast coffee, caramel, toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, dark fruit, oak char, and smoke. Mild roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Light stickiness, chalky roast, oak tannins, and increasing dryness. Minimal warming 12.3%, zero barrel booze. Unbelievably smooth. Perfectly balanced rich malts, fruity/nutty coffee, and bourbon barrel presence/integration. I think it gets a bit better after a year. Smoother/silkier. Glad to have it year round. I have plenty to drink from many vintages.

Hath released a new single, they will release a reissue (remastered?) version of their debut EP in October. Never heard it before, so it's still a win for me. @Roguer have a look.

 

The steamy humidity has kept me indoors this morning. I'm OK with desert heat, including Las Vegas / Phoenix and Death Valley in the Summer, but do not care for heat + high humidity indoors (good walking doing other things as long as I have access to a shower once I return).

Usually start light to start the day, true to form today with Bell's Lager of the Lakes.



This is a good Pilsner (3.5 my overall rating). Depending how ambitious I am in the heat, may head out to Metropolitan Brewing for a couple of pours and beer to go. Never been there before so I'm excited to go either today or later this month.

Odd Side Fussy IPA. Excellent IPA. Great fluffy head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker. toasted biscuit, light caramel/nutty malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, pepper bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; balanced creamy/bready/grainy, malts, sticky hops, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth/soft, minimal warming 7% or lingering hop burn after the finish. Feels like Centennial, Cascade, Amarillo, and Simcoe. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized bready malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Classic tasting Midwest IPA. No complaints. 4

Finally got this brewery and beer added to the database. First time with a contract brewed beer made just for one chain (Aldi). Typical American bock, but cleaner than most. Cheers all!

 

Good morning BAs! I took a few days off from drinking, and I’m now looking forward to the weekend. My morning coffee is “Peche Mortel” from Brasserie Dieu du Ciel, Quebec, Canada:



Bottled 3/6/17. Coffee, bitter roast, char. Minimal warmth from 9.5%. More coffee than FBS, but less chocolate sweetness and more bitter bean/malt roast. Perhaps my favorite breakfast coffee beer.

Overcast and hopefully rain to come...I set up 2 rain barrels three weeks ago and we have had no rain since...maybe today. Have a fabulous Friday y’all, and Cheers!

Austin Brothers Orange Smoothie IPA. Excellent NEIPA. Solid head retention/minimal lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, orange juice/pulp, white grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/zest, wood, pepper, pine hops; with moderate vanilla, cream, wheat, white bread dough malt sweetness; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and slight citrus tang/tartness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy/silky/bready malts, some sticky hops; slight lingering resins/rinds and acids in the mouthfeel. Super smooth/soft, minimal warming 6^, or lingering hop burn after the finish. Feels like all Citra hops. Extremely juicy/vibrant hops/fruit, with light dank/earthy notes; with a nice sized lactose and wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Spot on stuff as usual. 3.97
