3 Floyds Brewing (2020)

My local shop sometimes throws in extras for me (stuff he can't sell, usually...I don't mind b/c it's free!).

Yesterday he gave me a bomber of Blot Out the Sun. I checked the date when I got home; it was from 2017! I like Blot, but mostly as a Black IPA; I'm interested to see how this has held up but I'm expecting some "rotten hop" notes.

Isn't BotS a stout? Or are you saying its a very hoppy stout that drinks like a Black IPA?

 

It's a stout...but I always found it closer to a Black IPA due to the excessive hops.

 

BotS and Behemoth are both a lot hoppier than I typically like for the style. I like Behemoth a lot with a year or more of age on it, after the hops fade. I've never tried that with BotS before though.

 

Yes absolutely, Behemoth is amazing with some age on it, particular BA.

Imagine BotS might be better too...but who knows. Could be cat piss.

 

BoTs needs the fresh hops to shine otherwise it just taste like an average stout.

 

War Mullet was just the IPA I needed today.

 

Sometimes, when comparing these 2 styles, I wind up asking, “What’s the difference, really?” Looking at you, Surly Darkness...

 

Does anyone remember what other brew came out around the time Pillar of Beasts originally released in 2018? I thought there was a second barleywine or something similar that came out at the same time...

 

There were 3 Behemoths released about a month after

 

What were they? Cherry, and then a regular bourbon barrel Behemoth and then a specific named brand of bourbon barrel like Templeton or Willet or something?

 

2-year bourbon barrel aged was the third.

 

I believe it was cherry, 1 yr bourbon, and 2 yr bourbon

 

AH, that was it.

 

Psssst....War Mullet is still pretty good

 

Oh you could let that sit for many more years.

 

I wonder if they will ever revisit the goop series.

Anybody drink War Mullet yet? What’s it’s like?

 

Pear Bear b1 is one of my favorite sours of all time. I remember driving down there just to get bottles, and taking the first sip at the table with friends. I'll never forget how amazing that beer was.
