Have a good Friday. Going to be a rough day, but I'll get through it. I was up all night. 2 of my closest local friends came over for my birthday last night. I was on Discord with a childhood friend as well the whole time. We played lichess, MTG Arena; and a few 2v2 Starcraft 2 matches, which we failed at horribly, because we haven't played it in 5 years. I still remembered all of the basic Terran builds though.

Founders Solid Gold. Very good stuff as usual. Haven't had it in a while. Decent head retention/lacing. Aromas and flavors of lemon, citrus zest, cracker, corn, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of melon, mint, pepper, and herbal/grassy hop earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body and moderately crisp/clean finishing. Bready/grainy malts and some sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, very flavorful/refreshing, 4.4%. Nice body for the ABV. Perfectly clean lager flavors, never yeasty. The lemondrop hops certainly give it some unique character, a little odd at first but I liked it. Nice clean malt/corn flavors and nice hop presence for the style. Not overdone on adjuncts at all. Would get again.

Kingfisher Lager, not gonna lie this isn’t exactly what I usually want or dig in a beer but that’ll do, for a change.

Alaskan Hazy Bay Juicy IPA. Excellent NEIPA. Nice head retention/soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big pineapple, tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and yeast tang on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming 6%, or lingering hop burn after the finish. Very smooth/soft. Great Sultana, Mosaic, Simcoe, and Citra profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and lightly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. No complaints. 4

Bell's Two Hearted. Fantastic as always. Aromas and flavors of huge ruby red grapefruit, mandarin orange, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate honey, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light caramel/nutty malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, medium-plus body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and light resin/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing lingering bitter dryness, no cloying/astringent. Very smooth/soft, not aggressive, minimal warming 7%. Amazing Centennial showcase as expected. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized balancing bready Vienna/pale malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Spot on Midwest style IPA. Prefer the Founders Centennial more, but love both. Just as impressive as the Double as well.

After listening to the latest Tool stuff...I wonder where Maynard could have went if Neil Peart played drums for Tool. Interesting thought experiment.

    Cheers!

Raining now, so staying inside. If all goes to plan and skies clear plan on going to Metropolitan (reopened last week) and Revolution (brewery reopens today) and then heading for dinner to a place with good craft beer.

Pregamming with another Chicago Brewery pour, Half Acre's Fader, a nice light lager for the morning hours. Half Acre is one of only six remaining Chicago breweries which have not reopened their taprooms/brewpubs.

Two beers has been my typical booty during The Rona, so hopefully I can handle a full day of beer. Will be pacing myself and staying hydrated, a good call no matter the quality, quantity or time.

    Cheers to Metropolitan Brewing!

    And Revolution Brewing!

    And Chicago, ILL!

The exterminator just left...nothing in the traps today, but so far we’ve eliminated 4 rats from the backyard. More coffee - FBS:

On sale for $8.99/4pk yesterday at the Publix. Bottled 5/11/20. Bitter roast coffee bean nose/taste, chocolate finish. Priced right and very few (imo) coffee stouts match FBS consistency and also hold coffee flavor over time, to boot. Next up - laying down mulch...and Mr. Tran typically mows and trims around 11:30...enjoy what’s in your coffee cup this morning, brothers and sisters of the Now - Cheers!

Einbecker 1378. Pretty decent. Albeit a bit skunky from the green glass.

We had a nice shower, more on the radar headed this way...between rains I’m tending to the patio plants...it’s a pleasant enough 86° with a pre-storm breeze, so a light beer on the patio seems apropos - “All Day IPA”:

I don’t think I’ll get to the mulch this morning...Cheers!
