Second trip to Metropolitan, and their excellent taproom. Repeat pour from last Friday of Woke As Helles, this one a full pour. Excellent Helles blended wit’s coffee, and notes of cashew and lemon. 4.7%, I can drink this all day.

Please be advised, my fondness for drinking at a marina is paramount. Very nice.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz can shaped pint glass canned 7/9/20. Pours a hazy yellow with a half finger sticky white head that leaves loads of thin lace behind with solid retention. 4.5

Smell is ripe melon, peach, apple, apricot, and grapefruit rind really pleasant. 4.25

Taste follows cantaloupe, apple, peach, mango, apricot, and a little white grapefruit in the bold balanced finish. Really nice, but something makes feel it is a tad green and another week in the can it will go to another level. 4.5

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle carbonation, a tad sticky but not dry, and 8% it is loaded with flavor but goes down very easy. 4.5

Overall another tasty NEDIPA from my favorite Kettlehead Brewing. These guys just keep bringing the goods and this one is only going to get better from my experience. 4.5

Its been forever since I had this guy. Straffe Hendrik Tripel. Not even sure why I picked it up, except I wanted to revisit this as it has been years since I last had it.

Spinning a wonderful Stanley Turrentine Blue Note reissue. Jubilee Shouts, some early 60's recordings he did with his brother on trumpet.

    Review for Straffe Hendrik Tripel
Pours a darker amber/orange color than would be expected for the style. A dense white head forms that lasts forever. Plenty of lace left behind.
Bread and caramelized sugars in the nose. Actually seems like unfermented wort, like walking into a brewery on brew day. While that is not unpleasant, not really what I'm looking for. Caramel apples, and fruity esters and pears.
Taste follows the nose. A big bready/doughy flavor and lots of caramelized sugars. Really sweet, maybe a touch oxidized. Again seems like a lot of unfermentables in here, and again, I don't dislike that. Just not my favorite.
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. A little more sticky and chewy than I like. I'm having no issue sipping on the bottle. As the alcohol is noticeable but good and warming. Though not an example of the style I come back to a lot.

I'm certainly enjoying this for what it is. Though I prefer other examples of the style. This seems a bit darker, and the unfermented character detracts just enough for me. It has been a long time since the last time I had one of these, and it will probably be that long again.

    Overall score 3.53

My favorite of theirs - full of bright and tart but juicy and sweet berries - and edged with lightly drying wood notes...

Quick trip to Total Wine earlier...
We're supposed to have "tropical storm-like" weather at some point - very exciting - these plus some bourbon oughta serve the weekend well...

    Playing through RDR2 again... lol

Just got back from an eye doctor appointment. Pressure in the right eye was high, but it's been fine for a few years with the drops he has me on. Wants to see me in two weeks. Oh, well, I've been falling apart for quite a long time. I'm having a Type A India Pale Ale from the Conshohocken Brewing Co. There's grapefruit, pine and some tropical notes. It's a right, proper IPA. And it doesn't give away that it's 7%.

New beer for me, Metropolitan Jitterator. This is a most excellent coffee and fruit flavored dopplebock, one of the best I’ve had. Metropolitan’s dark and coffee pours are excellent, will keep returning.

    Next stop Revolution!

Double Fruit Punch IPA from Microbrasserie Vox Populi in Montreal. 8% ABV and heavy on the tropical fruit, particularly on the nose. Very refreshing, particularly since it’s 42 degrees Celsius with the humidex today. It’s a basement, beer and A/C kind of afternoon. Cheers.
