Everything is made in small batches and they usually release more than 1 can at a time. Usually 2-3 different cans and multiple crowlers. They do their best to spread out the beer

Also, it seems like they could keep the car lines shorter if they did it per person instead of per car.

Doubt many people want to carpool with what's going around now

So if a car has four people in it, the four people split 12 cans?

They also release more than 1 can at a time. But in my experience you would have to go back to the end of the line if you wanted for than 3 four packs per beer. They try their best to accommodate everyone who drove and waited in their cars

Just wanted to chime in on some of the discussion above.

The allotments are not per car, they are per person. Each person in a car can get an allotment if there are multiple people.

I’ll be in town this weekend and was hoping to get some beer to-go (don’t really care what beers). If I show up during their “open” hours, will I be able to get beer? It sounds like there is often a wait? How long would that be?

Realistically probably not. If there's a can release they have massive 100+ car lines. Even if they're doing just crowlers there's usually a decent wait from what I understand depending on what's being sold.

So once it's all sold out they close for the day. Obviously this all depends on what they're actually selling that day, but this last weekend they had the dual Hydra release and I think they said "wait at your own risk" hours before they opened.

The one time I went during Covid I arrived almost an hour early and then after opening it took about 90 minutes to get to the front. This was on a crowler only day.

Ah okay, thanks, so they’ve been selling out of beer every day? Are they on draft anywhere, or are they strictly brewery only?

for the most part it sells out from what I’ve seen. I’ve been paying attention to the Mortalis FB group since I’ll be in the area soon, and days with things not selling out seem pretty rare.

I wanted some more beer from Mortalis after my experience last year, but looks like it’s not in the cards.

They're doing a release tomorrow (July 16th) on Eventbrite. I have a friend that is considering doing the 10 hour round trip for this if he can get a case.

Reading a lot of scattered/misinfo in this thread so hopefully I can clear some things up as I go to Mortalis pretty often. I will try to answer all the questions I've been seeing asked...

Their current hours are Thurs, Fri & Sat 3-7pm. Taproom is not open, it is just curbside/driveup purchase. No online orders or proxies. You basically have to sit in your car waiting for most of the day to get anything.

There are usually crowlers available each day, anywhere from 18-50 per type. They stagger your allotment for these so you cannot buy 1 of every crowler variant... usually if they have 5-6 types available on a given day, you can get 1-3 total crowlers, no duplicates. They do this to make sure everyone in line leaves with something after waiting 7+ hours in case they're near the back of the line and can't get a BA or Hydra or whatever the big release is for the day. They also send someone out to count the # of people in line (not cars), and then adjust limits based on turnout - so if you are in line by the time they count around 3pm, you will likely leave with something.

Major BA releases are typically 1pp, sometimes 2pp. If you want a Hydra or BA bottle, you will need to be in line early morning to even have a chance.

For the last Hydra release (Saturday, 3pm drop), people were sleeping in their vehicles the night before (Friday night) the release...

Can't edit my above post, but some more info on releases....

Their major releases are usually BA Stouts, Stouts, or Hydra Fruited Sours.

BA Stout releases are typically 1pp, sometimes 2pp. For these, I've seen allotments as low as 130 total bottles, and as high as 400. If you are not in line relatively early, you will not get any.

For non-BA stouts w/adjuncts, they could have a few hundred to a 1000+. I think the most I've seen is ~1600 but I could be wrong on this. Usually a good chance of getting these even if it's 3-6pp as long as you get in line by 3 on the day of release... I've seen a few non-BA stouts last several days, so these can be hit or miss in terms of availability depending on adjuncts.

Hydra Fruited Sours releases are anywhere from 1-3 4pks pp if they're canned, and 1pp if crowlered. If you want a Hydra, basically plan on pissing your entire morning/day away waiting in line - ppl go nuts for these and they never last an afternoon, usually gone within an hour or so after they start moving the line.

One last thing - there are a few places around Rochester that will randomly get product from time-to-time. I was lucky enough to get a crowler of PBJ Nyx a few months back when one of the bars here had a keg of it for special event that was ultimately canceled, they ended up just crowlering what they had. There must have been maybe 18-24 of these available, and Mortalis never actually sold this beer. There is a cafe that also gets kegs a few times a year as they were an original kickstarter support of the bar. Last week, one of the bakeries had a few 4pks of cans available as part of a collaboration, so they do pop up randomly here and there if you know where to look.

    Hope this helps!

This is the most mental shit. We made jokes about this happening at OH, but didn’t think it would actually happen anywhere

I know right haha. I thought @RexFerrin was gonna be like there's a lot of misinformation in this thread. People don't actually sleep in their cars on line for beer. That would be crazy!

There shouldn’t be any difference, but for some reason lining up for 7 hours in a car vs on foot, just has an extra layer of wrongness
