Its not yet midnight here in Chicago, so I'm sneaking in one last one today. This is Revolution Brewing's version of the Black is Beautiful series. This is rumored to be the base stout for their delicious Deth's Tar barrel aged stout, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Pours a deep dark shiny black color. A bit on the oily side in appearance die to that thick viscous look when it pours. Thin tan sudsy head dissipates leaving no residual head. Aroma as notes of roasted, almost charred malts, light cocoa notes and oats with some light earthy hop notes on the back end.

Taste follows the nose with those roasts malts taking on a more charred quality. You get that toasty bitterness up front with some smooth rich malts, oats, and bakers chocolate. There is a moderate sweetness to the beer that is really interesting. The feel is medium bodied, incredibly smooth and silky with a drier finish. Mild to moderate carbonation.

Overall this is a killer stout - and its just an old school stout with nothing added in which is just delightful. A great way to end the day.
