Well i started off with darker beers since may i have been trying ipa's. It all started with bitburger triple hopd lager i really enjoyed the hops in this beer. I cant find any fresh bitburger triple hopd near me all are bottle in january and have lost there hop punch. I began trying different ipa's. So far my favorite has been jai alai from cigar city. What really stands out is the piney flavor. So which ipa's are really pine forward if it helps im located in southern maryland.

I get a lot of pine from two hearted in a glorious way. Others may disagree with that but it’s the reason I love two hearted so much. I’m guessing their in MD.

Sierra pale ale is also a great one if you haven’t revisited in a while, or had it at all. Plenty more but you can’t go wrong with either.

maybe not available in MD but if you ever in NJ. Head high from Kane has a sweet blue spruce thing going on that I’ve always loved. Enjoy!

Yeah, considering your interest was piqued through Sierra Nevada's hops in a Bitburger beer, you'd do well to start with their lineup including SN Pale Ale and Torpedo their DIPA (and Celebration when it comes out in November'ish!)

I have to admit that every time I've tried Jai Alai, the note I get most prominent is malty sweetness. But that's typically how states on the Atlantic side interpret our Pacific IPAs

And since they're in the region, why not try some of the OB IPA Can-o-Bliss offerings. Hell, try 'em all. But Two Hearted, if ready, is a great standard-setter and will give you a benchmark to understand what you do and don't enjoy.

Try Evolution Lot#3 IPA ,brewed in Salisbury,MD. It has that old school, piney bitterness.

Deschutes still has it on their website and people keep checking in on Untappd with it. Haven't seen it in TX in atleast a year unfortunately. Looks like the haze craze cutback on production and distribution.

Pinedrops is the obvious contender, but availability outside of OR seems to be limited. I haven't seen it in awhile.

I will second trying out SN Pale Ale and Torpedo, as well as Northern Hemisphere and Celebration in the fall.

But your mileage may vary as I have never thought of Jai Alai as piney, it is more like orange juice IMO. But much more delicious than regular orange juice.

If you’re still on the prowl after getting through the other suggestions, Dogfish will have Pennsylvania tuxedo late October early November I believe.

@Skabiski made a good suggestion as regards Evolution Lot#3 IPA. Not too long ago I discussed this beer in a New Beer Sunday post:

"Served in my Spiegelau IPA glass:

    Appearance:

Amber colored with a BIG rocky white head.

    Aroma:

A combination of citrus and piney hop aromas accompanied with a caramel type malt aroma.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with citrus and piney hop flavors with a notable caramel malt flavor. Very pleasant balance of flavors. There is a moderate level of bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with an off-dry finish.

    Overall:

This beer is very, very good. I enjoyed the combination of flavors in this beer."

I also made an observation of:

Not from the specific hop aroma/flavor perspective but from a balance of hops and malt flavors this beer is reminiscent to me of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. I am also a fan of Celebration.

I’ll let you guys know what I pick up this weekend last weekend I got a six pack of terrapin hopsecutioner it was good but not the hop flavor I was looking for. I think the problem is freshness. In my area there is a lot of craft beers that sit and never get replaced. I bought ten cases of triple hopd lager the first two cases were excellent I have one case left and it taste completely different then the first case.

You plate is similar to mine in that I mostly pick up citrusy flavors in Jai Alai along with some caramel flavors from the malt. I do not pick up any pine in Jai Alai.

    Cheers!

Some have already mentioned Bell’s two Hearted which has great pine notes.

As well, Stone’s regular IPA (if you can find it fresh) is a nice daily drinker that satisfies that dank, pine, “bag of weed” taste that folks are often going for.

HOWEVER, IMO - the creme de la creme of pine-forward IPAs is Fat Head’s Head Hunter & Hop Juju. Both are absolutely off the charts and are two of the best Ive ever had. Fat Heads is in Cleveland, OH so Im unfortunately left to only get some around the holidays. Maybe it distros to Maryland, otherwise theres gotta be a state nearby you that gets Fat Heads.

Since Evolution is a Maryland brewery can you find their beers fresh?

    Cheers!
