"Our take on a traditional German Kolsch. An easy drinking lagered ale with low bitterness, complex aromatics with hop and yeast qualities and a smooth bread like finish"

Can poured into the closet style glass I had to a stange

Two finger fluffy white foam cap , good lacings , good retention, settles to a layer if white over a clear golden liquid with active streams of carbonation . Great look for this beer style

Aroma is straw, grass , hay, malty

Taste is grassy , malty , clean

Medium sudsing , light, clean, refreshing

    Good beer

Holler ESB, on this rainy Houston afternoon.

Listening to McCoy Tyner's masterful album Sahara, and reading Brion Gysin's The Process. Which is the hallucinogenic story of a professor crossing the Sahara, and was a partial influence on the album. I haven't fully made up my mind on the book so far, buts its odd to say the least

Foreign Exchange Kittywampus Brunch Imperial Porter w/ coffee, maple syrup, and vanilla. They don’t come around often, but I do appreciate a good porter. This one is quite dark, dense, and has an element of roast from the coffee, but it still comes off as a porter and not necessarily a stout. Malted milk ball, gourmet coffee, vanilla, maple syrup, milk chocolate, light fruity element, toast. Nice balance between the coffee, maple, and vanilla. Soft, creamy, silky smooth, and quite drinkable for 9.5%.

Tackling my last 2 cans of this one at once. Hard to believe we’re outside enjoying the pool at mid-day August 1, but that’s what’s going down.

Was in the mood for something a little different today, so into the cellar for the smallest “vertical” one can do:

2015 vs 2016 Bigfoot by Sierra Nevada
They poured quite similarly, though in the glass the 2015 is just a tad harder to see through. The nose on the 2015 is a surprisingly a bit stronger overall. A little more toffee and fruit highlights from 2016, little more tobacco and clay from 2015.

The 2015 is a little bolder and dryer, while the 2016 leads slightly in alcohol presence. Tobacco, leather, ashen pine bitterness, hints of dark cherry in 2015. Toffee, berry, fresh pipe tobacco, sweet ruby grapefruit and pine bitterness in 2016.

I think some of the flavor differences could be oxidation which would understandably be a little more present in the older bottle. If I just had the '15 I'd say the oxidation level was quite low - it's the comparison against the newer bottle that exposes it more.

Glad to have done this, it was a nice break from most of the beers I've been having lately. Cheers, all!

New brew: Captain's Envy from Captain Lawrence, a limited release. A bit boozy, but that's me.

Loved that show, especially Toni Tennille und ihre Schwestern. Sad about Daryl Dragon, though. Stay Safe, Play On, and Prost!
