Well, lots of brewers use something like this (commercial restaurant supply #10 can = 6.5 lbs.):

Weyerbacher once published a pic of a pyramid of about a dozen and a half or so large empty (upside down) cans after brewing their pumpkin ale in their blog post. (I'm still annoyed I didn't save a copy of it... :grimacing: ... I imagine they deleted it 'cause it sure didn't look "craft".) Pretty sure there is a similar scene, an employee of DFH scooping out pumpkin puree, in one of the Brew Masters Dogfish Head TV show episodes.

    As for ST:
And, of course, it was common for some "craft" brewers to use no pumpkin at all, just add pumpkin pie spices. That's what the brewer of the first "modern" pumpkin ale, "Buffalo" Bill Owens, eventually did.

Thanks for the explanation about the puree. I had guessed something like that was probably the case. My point is, if they want to feed off the seasonal mystique, they could at least pretend.

Flaunting it completely, as they are doing, just ruins the appeal. Whether made with puree or fresh, I'd probably buy a pumpkin beer that appeared on my local shelves at the same time as the pumpkins in my garden were about ready to harvest. When that beer shows up before my tomatoes are even ripe, it fails to capitalize on the emotional appeal of the changing seasons, which is what these products (not only beer, but everything fall themed) are meant to do.

I like the Bitburger Festbier a lot - reminds me of the Weihenstephaner Fest.....nice solid malt flavors and a little of that "Bit" yeast....reminds me of the SN and Bit collab from last year - yeah, I had never seen this one before around here until this past week - it is solid!

Well to be fair, we’re all already wearing masks anyways. So it’s basically Halloween.

Love that Bitburger glass. I also loved drinking their Pils out of it in Germany.

Same with Warlock. The original 10% er was pleasant. The new 8.whatever is a ghost, pun I guess, of it’s true self...in my humble opinion!

Did @SierraTerence say when Sierra Nevada’s Oktoberfest would start being distributed this month (beginning/middle/end)?

    Ships today, in fact.
That last sentence is interesting, given the rumor (never confirmed AFAIK) that swept through the forums a week or two ago in which it was reported that a "SN rep" in NY was telling customers that Summerfest was dead after 2020...

Thank you! I actually did see that post and for some reason must have told myself Oktoberfest ships in August and Celebration ships in October, but didn’t retain the exact dates lol.

There was a brewery, now closed, that waited till after Halloween to brew their Pumpkin Ale. Usually towards the end of August/September till Halloween I'm all about Pumpkin Ale's and fall beers. However, November 1st and it's Celebration from there on out!

Usually Tennessee is behind the curve when it comes to beer drops but stopped by my local shop this afternoon and even we are now subject to the SEASONAL CREEP of Pumpkin and Fest beers. Gonna hold off for the labels I more enjoy. Hoping we see Good Gourd/Schlafly Pumpkin/Whole Hog Pumpkin & perhaps Elysian's along with fresh Ayinger.

Oh no! I want summer to drag on as long as it can.

Fall means colder weather and less outdoor options. Also the flu season on top of Covid.

Here’s hoping to an endless summer.

I love the Fall seasonal beers, Märzens and Pumpkins, but not until Labor Day.
