Opened a bottle of the TG collab tonight, and wow is it good. Thick, smooth, velvety. Not much burn at all, but there's definitely barrel in there. I'm not a huge coffee stout person, I almost always and up with insane heartburn afterward from the acidity, but this to me was worth the heftier than normal price tag. And on the plus side, no heartburn!

I like the double-mash base a lot. Hopefully they do this more in the future, it worked well with Ghost Proton and it's even better with this beer.

Yes. And I think you also have to buy tickets to the release event and then win a lottery to get.the privelage of paying $100 for a single 12 oz bottle.

Thanks for the review. Im seeing beer across the board going up in price particularly higher end stouts.

I didn't know this was a TG collab. Looking forward to picking this one up even if this is pricier than hypermash

Malt Couture recently covered this, coincidentally. Pretty much what you said, with the added bonus of if you did happen to win the lottery style drawing, you had to be able to pick it up within like three hours or something to that effect.

Is it any wonder it gets so highly rated? Can we honestly imagine anyone going through alllll of that and then being like "eh, decent coffee stout, 4/5"

Hypermash was triple mash stout. Ghost, felt in-between so I'm assuming double mash, but I cannot confirm.

It was a 3 hour pickup window but pickup date was 2+ months from lottery drawing so winners had plenty of time to make plans.

They also brought this up, in that they wanted to hate because it really is a lot of hoops to jump through, however at the end of the day they agreed that KBBS was just a really well made beer, through and through.
Good to know. Thanks for the clarification!

Hyper was said to be a blend between double and triple mashed. Ghost from what I recollect was a double mash so the next release should be on par with the thickness with ghost but I yield to those who got to try it already.

To those who tried it was it as sweet as Ghost? I thought ghost was overly sweet and syrupy. Hypermash was much better

I think you've got it, HH was the blend of triple and double, GP was a double.

I didn't think it was very sweet (if you're referring to The Fall of Umibozu). I got a ton of rich dark chocolate from it.

That merch drop was nuts. Felt like buying Supreme.

It would be nice if the site was on Shopify instead of Squarespace though.

BL just posted they’re doing pre orders and a new shipment of shirts will be arriving in 2 weeks. Put in your order!

Hitting up BL for first time next week/weekend. I’m on the fence about ordering bottles of TFOU. Say I stop by on Thursday, would you bet they have TFOU on draft so at least I can be the degenerate Untappd junkie that I am and tick? That $36.95 price tag for 500mL turns me off.

The mugs sold out in like 60 seconds for sure. Not quite sure how long it took for the shirts though.

Should be there (it’s been on tap for the past 5 or 6 days already so unless things change) but you have to buy an entree item to drink there and the cheapest entree is $14 I think. Then it’s $9 for a 6oz pour of TFOU. So if you’re going just for that, you’re looking at $23 just to get a taste. I would keep an eye on their Untappd live taplist, they’re really good about updating it at all times if availability changes.

Any thoughts on this year’s fundamental observation? I’m seeing widely varying ratings on Untappd, and none on here.

I actually liked it. It’s not better than last years but I’m glad I have a few more bottles. I got a very floral characteristic out of the bottle I had with that slight berry note they mention. Not in bad way at all. Last years was a sweet vanilla to me.

I agree with this assessment. It was hot when fridge temp but as it got to room temp i got the berry on the back which I really liked. A different take on a classic BL beer. Curious to see how these taste with some time on them.
