Alewife and I spent 6 nights in Waterbury during the last week of July.

Every place we visited observed the standard C19 protocols: masks, distancing and recording our names and phone numbers.

As she is not an IPA fan (difficult in VT!) we first hit Queen City in Burlington. They have a nice lineup of English and German brews, with a Belgian now and then. She had a few of a nice Belgian Tripel, while I had a Tripel, then a Steinbier and a Rauchbier.

Next day we visited Stowe... did a short hike then some decent Märzen bier at Idletyme. After a lovely ride through Smugglers Notch, we tried some brews at Brewster River. Alewife had a couple of ambers while I had the house DIPA and then an Upper Pass Cloud Drop. Had some tasty sammiches at Sunset Grill right next door to The Alchemist. Back at our room I had a can of Luscious, procured earlier from the Alchemist.

Day 3 saw us driving around checking out covered bridges before heading up route 100 back to Waterbury. Had a nice meal at the Reservoir with a Rock Art Vermonster and an Abt 12 filling our glasses.

Day 4 saw a visit to Stone Corral in nearby Richmond. Had some tasty Scotch Ale and Baltic Porter there, plus a plate of nachos... Drove south through Bristol before going over the App Gap and biers at Lawson's. Alewife tried a Maibock and Maple Nipple, while I dove into a delicious Triple Sunshine and a better Tequila Triple Sunshine.

Day 5 was a lovely drive along Lake Champlain before ending up back at Lawson's. Same for the Lady, while I tried the Double Sunshine. Later, chilling back at our Airbnb with more local libations.

Last day we did more touring of the back roads of the countryside. Drove through the upper Champlain islands before doing up Queen City once more. Tripel for Alewife and Steinbier for myself. Had another good meal at the Reservoir before a couple of biers on the back patio of the Airbnb.

Was a very enjoyable escape.... even with all of the required precautions.... downside was we were not able to stop at Long Trail for a meal heading north, and the Cabot store in Waterbury was closed, so no "grazing " around their cheese bar. .. Still a great time!!

    Prosit!!

Sounds like a great trip! Did you make it to Von Trapp? If not, put it on your list for next time, having some beers there while watching the sun set over the mountains is a must do

Great update, @Bierman9, wife and I thinking about a similar trip once kids are off to school (and thank god they both go to a college where they're actually going back). Luckily all my wife likes are IPAs and I'm more the lager guy, but I'll survive:wink:

appreciate this recap. Not sure if Im headed up to stowe for labor day weekend, I just cant with all the mask wearing or providing a negative test or having to quarantine. Massachusetts residents I think are ok if you are not directly from boston?

Thanks for the post! The Mrs and I are going to Stowe and Burlington in Sept for a week of hiking and brewery/cidery hopping. We can’t wait.

It works by county. Your county needs to below a particular active case count per the latest Johns Hopkins C19 data. Only western MA counties qualify presently I believe. VT has a nice website that details everything w screen shots/maps of the JH data.

actually only two counties in Massachusetts are in the clear to visit without quarantining for 7-14 days as show in map above.

Did try on day 2 but was too long a wait for an open spot... have been before and the view is super (though I liked the view from the old deli/bakery better!).

    Cheers!

Seems like your trip is already planned, but you might want to read up here: https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel

Damn you, Springfield! You're making Hampden county look bad again. Tree House used to brew here!

Suggest checking back in Jan - highly unlikely at the current new case rate and w/all the college students returning that any metro Boston county will be under the 400 case line anytime soon. :beers:

Burlington (VT) has 10,000 college students returning next week, so Chittenden Cty. may be over 400 cases once again, and then we'll have to sit tight once more, too.

Any suggestions, time is limited and I was thinking of going to Foam, but have never been there and am open to suggestions. Also, does anyone know if Waterbury has Uber yet? Thank you in advance.
