What do you do if you buy a 4 or 6-pack of beer that you don't really like? Do you eventually work your way through, give it to your unsuspecting friends and claim it is a unique craft beer, or dump it?

I have dumped a few. Others, I have worked my way through them over the course of several weeks (or maybe months). .

I mean, at some point you have to be drinking for the buzz. They sound perfect for the times you're drinking for the effect, not the experience.

Drink beer and learn. I love most everything (any styles good to me). I purchased a few (Single only) barleywines bottles and always had a hard time finishing them whereas it’s some people favorite style.

I steer clear of most AAL, and far worse, Euro Lager, the macro stuff like Faxe or 8.6. That’s merely good enough to flush the toilets.

I can't say for sure, but I intend to believe my drain pours were all singles. I can't recall ever dumping a 4-pack or 6-pack down the drain. In those cases (like a current six of gluten from beer I bought for some vegans we had over - and they didn't drink it! - well, I'll choke them down after a long period of time...

As long as I don't dislike the beer I man up and down it or share it. I can't remember the last time i bought a beer I found undrinkable but if i do I'll just dump it move on,

I sometimes will offer them to a guest but be up front that I didn't like it. I don't know that I've ever drain-poured a beer. I can't imagine even a really bad beer tasting any worse than some of the stuff my mom made me eat as a kid.

There are no drain pours in my house and screw my friends (not literally), they can bring their own. I'll persevere through a crappy pack of cans.

This is the answer really, when you are already hammered drink a beer you don’t like, you still won’t like it, but you won’t care.

If you really can't drink it, save it for that friend who is a lush and can/will drink anything that has alcohol in it.
    He don't care!

With a little bit of research you won't buy a beer that you dislike. I don't use ratings to guide my purchases, but personal recommendations (aka hype) in these threads or from someone I know are all the guidance that I need.

I did once return a 12-pack to the store when the first 2-3 bottles turned out to be over-carbonated to the point that I had gushers that would lose half of the beer and the rest was not pleasant to drink with all of that CO2 in it. Brewery errors are returnable, but anything else is buyer beware.

Fortunately, does not happen often. When it does, I just drink through it over time.

Dump em, I don’t buy that you don’t waste beer schtick, if it sucks so bad you can’t drink it I won’t cook with it either. I won’t give shit beer to a friend unless it’s a style kinda thing.

    What he said.

It took me about a year or two of reviewing new beer to learn that at least 50% of my beer stash should always be made up of beers I already know I love. Working through lots of average to below-average new-to-me 6-packs taught me that.

All of that tasting also trained my palate, and I'd argue there's no substitute. You learn a lot from studying all beers closely, good and bad beers alike, and finishing off 6-packs I didn't love helped me understand flavors better and identify the ones I love the most. I appreciate my favorite beers more now than ever because I know exactly what they have that the others don't, if that makes sense.

I mostly do mixed sixes, so it isn't gonna kill me to drain dump. Research, yes, but drink and learn is fun!

That's my position. Man up, and drink it and never buy it again. Have never come across a 4-pack where I had to drain pour all of them, but if really bad, I've had no problems pouring 2 of the 4 cans down the drain and drinking the other 2 trying to find something to like.

Grammatically speaking, this is where placement of your modifier is “really” important.

If I don’t really like the beer, I’ll probably work my way through the pack but with lowered expectations.

If I really don’t like the beer, I’ll probably dump it or give it to a friend (being totally honest about why I don’t want it, so they don’t feel bad if they really don’t like it either and decide to dump it).

If it's an unfamiliar style/unusual flavor profile I haven't had before I'll power through the pack and see if it's just my unfamiliarity causing issues.

If it's a style I love though it goes straight down the drain if I struggle to finish it. There's been two truly crap märzens I've dumped but that's the only time I've done that with a beer.

I'm at the point now where I only buy multi-packs to split with my beer-drinking friends. I usually buy only singles or, occasionally, mixed sixers for myself.

If I ever give away stuff I don't like myself, I always include a caveat.

I've gotten some four packs that have turned out pretty bad. I'll typically give them away. My main problem is, that if I'm gonna drink a calorie-laden beverage, I want to enjoy it. I'd rather not have my empty calories be empty of enjoyment as well. If i want to get buzzed, a shot or two of Woodford Reserve or Jameson will get the job done with out blowing out the caloric budget, if you will.
